Our Marvel’s Wolverine Nightmare Door Locations guide Details the locations of all Nightmare Door Trial locations in the game. The guide features 14 Nightmare Door locations, with the trial available at each one, and instructions on how to access the hidden 15th trial after finishing the story. Completing all 14 doors unlocks the Pathways of the Mind trophy, and if you finish all 15 trials with at least a bronze score, a hidden memory is revealed, which is required for the Repressed Memories trophy.
Nightmare Door Trial Locations Guide – Marvel’s Wolverine
There are 14 Nightmare Doors placed throughout the main campaign, followed by a secret 15th Nightmare Trial that becomes available in the Nightmare Cabin after the story. The doors are generally easy to recognize because large purple roots lead directly to them, and most are positioned along the main path rather than being hidden far away.
Moreover, these collectibles are also not missable at all. Once the story is complete, you can return to earlier chapters through Chapter Select by interacting with the bed in the Nightmare Cabin. Your progress can also be checked through the Collectible Tracker in the pause menu and at the Nightmare Cabin.
The trial for each door has different challenges. Some focus on combat while others require quick movement and platforming. A Bronze rank is enough for completion and for the trophy requirement, although higher scores provide more Adaptation XP and can help you reach Adaptation Level 10 faster. You only need to earn Adamantium rank in one trial for the trophy requirements.
All 14 Nightmare Door Locations
Nightmare Door #1 – The Enemy of My Enemy
This door appears during the Homecoming and cannot be skipped. After a cutscene with Essex, you will automatically be in this door.
Nightmare Door #2 – Can’t Outrun the Past
This door appears during The One That Got Away. After fighting through a few more groups of reavers, you will come across this one automatically when you reach a small river.
Nightmare Door #3 – Hunting the Hunter
The third trial door can be found in Raise Some Hell. When the furnace building is over, go outside to a space with a lot of containers, then drop to the ground and follow the purple root along the ground to this door.
Nightmare Door #4 – Fallen on Hard Times
You will encounter this door in Something Much Stronger after freeing the wolf from the branches; you’ll come across some roots leading to the nightmare door.
Nightmare Door #5 – Bad Inhibitions.
This trial door is found during the Mutant Detected. Pass through the portal and through the sequence in the jet engine, and walk through the hallway to the right. Walk through the door and turn left (to the right) to find another door to walk through; at the end of this corridor, there is a nightmare door.
Nightmare Door #6 – Last Stand at Cold Pines
During the One Last Mission, the sixth door will give you the Last Stand at Cold Pines Trial. Once you leave the bar, follow the main path; you’ll see some roots leading to the door close by. It is a multi-wave gauntlet duel (If played on The Man, it is impossible to die; once enough points are reached, it becomes harder to play and you can die to end the gauntlet).
Nightmare Door #7 – Death By 1000 Cuts
This door is encountered during Get Angry. After completing the hallucination sequence, you will end up in another cave, and the door is just in front of you. After the hallucination sequence, you will be in another cave; you can’t miss the door in front of you. The goal for the trial is to use Critical Strikes 3 on 3 different enemies. When enemies use yellow attacks, they will impale you with a sword; then you can use + to use the sword to impale one of them. Alternatively, you can reach Rage Tier 3 to do Critical Attacks; equipping the Adaptations that increase Rage gain rate is helpful.
Nightmare Door #8 – Shinjuku Shuffle
In Bad Blood, after fighting a bunch of enemies, you will be on the street again; some roots appear immediately in front of you. Follow these up the building to the door.
Nightmare Door #9 – Rockbottom Blues
The ninth Door appears in Death Comes to Death. You will have to battle some enemies in the restaurant before you can view the security footage. Leave the security office and then follow the footpath back to the door on the left. For this trial, you just need to reach the exit in 47 seconds.
Nightmare Door #10 – Crucible of Tears
During Sinister Tidings, you will find the tenth door. The door is located on the balcony stairs and can only be found upon interacting with the sink in the bathroom.
Nightmare Door #11 – Blood in the Jungle
This door is found during Way Down Low. Once you make it to the radio tower where Jean will retrieve the microphone, you will be ziplined down the tower; follow the roots that will seemingly lead to the door, which you can’t miss!
Nightmare Door #12 – Run the Tables
This door appears in Roll the Dice. After fighting all the reavers in the casino backroom, before using the elevator, look left and follow the roots.
Nightmare Door #13 – Edge of a Knife
During I’m Still Here, you will find the thirteenth door. The root to this door will be directly visible at the main path after an area with many enemies, but through which you can move stealthily. The roots branch out to the right of the main path.
Nightmare Door #14 – Savage Showdown
This is the final door of the campaign found during This Was the Dream. The door will be found in the starting room after falling and engaging in a bit of fighting with some reavers.
How to Unlock the 15th Nightmare Trial
The final trial is different from the other 14 because it does not have a physical door hidden inside a campaign chapter. Once you finish the main story, return to the Nightmare Cabin.
Look at the collection of figurines on the shelf and select the bottom right figurine. Cycle through the available options until you find the Best There Is challenge.
Complete this trial with at least a bronze score for it to count toward the full set. Once all 15 Nightmare Trials have been completed, including this secret challenge, you can unlock the hidden memory connected to the Repressed Memories trophy.
With all 14 Nightmare Doors discovered, and the additional post-game trial completed, you will have everything required for the Nightmare Trial collectibles and their associated trophies. Since the challenges remain available through the Nightmare Cabin and Chapter Select, you can also return later with more abilities and a stronger setup.
