This Phantom Blade Zero guide details where you can find Banyan Hearts in the game. Banyan Hearts are special items needed to unlock two abilities at the training bells. You can either purchase them from a merchant for 100,000 dust or earn them by completing special challenges found throughout the game.
Banyan Hearts Guide – Phantom Blade Zero
When you visit a training bell and open the ability training menu, you will notice two abilities that are locked until you obtain a Banyan Heart. One of these abilities has a red symbol beside it. Once you have a heart, you can unlock either ability depending on which one you find more useful.
The first option is to buy a Banyan Heart from Zhang, who can be found at his hideout in Pangzhen. He also appears in several other major zones throughout the game.
When you trade with him, make sure to check his inventory for Banyan Hearts.
Each one costs 100,000 dust, and he can sometimes have two available. However, this is quite expensive, especially since dust is a limited resource.
If you need more dust, consider selling upgrade materials for weapons you rarely use. This can help you earn some extra resources, but be careful not to sell materials that you might need later. You can also use the merchant to purchase upgrade materials for the weapons you actually use.
You can also obtain Banyan Hearts without spending any dust by completing special challenges. The first one is located in Pangen, near Lion Dance Hall.
Head towards the large tree in the top left corner of the map. On your way there, you will need to cross a body of water and defeat a small boss. Beating this enemy rewards you with a Phantom Edge, which will be useful for your progress.
After crossing the small bridge, look ahead, and you will see a large tree in the distance. Approach it and interact with it to begin a special challenge.
Interacting with the tree will take you into a combat challenge where you must defeat multiple groups of enemies. You need to survive the entire encounter and eventually face the boss at the end.
Once the boss is defeated, you will receive a Banyan Heart as a free reward. The challenge is not particularly difficult, especially if you have already upgraded your equipment.
After collecting the Banyan Heart, return to any training bell and open the ability menu. You can now unlock one of the two abilities that were previously unavailable.
The tree in Pangen is one of five human-faced Banyan trees scattered throughout the game world. Keep looking for the remaining trees as you explore, since they offer another way to collect these valuable hearts.
