Publisher Modus Games and developer Aurogon Shanghai have revealed the release date for their upcoming 2D action-adventure game Afterimage. Afterimage is a fully hand-drawn RPG, and it was featured during the latest Nintendo Inside the House of Indies: Holiday Event where the release date of the title was also announced. Afterimage will release on April 25, 2023, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
To celebrate the release date announcement, Modus Games has released a brand-new trailer for the game as well. Check it out below:
In Afterimage, years have passed since the cataclysm called The Razing nearly brought humanity to destruction. Now, mystic forces have suddenly assaulted mankind’s remaining settlements. The game puts you in the shoes of a girl named Renee who bids farewell to her destroyed village and sets out to investigate these attacks and discover the truth.
While doing so, she inexplicably sets into motion a series of events that will now determine the fate of the new world. Afterimage combines two genres into one as you will see Metroidvania and RPG elements combined in the ruined world of Engardin.
The game will feature deep RPG mechanics and a Metroidvania-like world which will challenge you to explore and traverse the lands of Engardin. You will get to explore treacherous environments, fight, and defeat challenging bosses and uncover the secrets holding the world and its various inhabitants together.
As you explore the world of Engardin, you will experience non-linear freedom and over 200 pieces of equipment to collect. There are 6 different weapon classes in the game to master and talent points to invest in different skills. There are deep RPG elements in the game so you can expect plenty of character customization.
With the game’s release date confirmed for April 2023, you can look forward to playing Afterimage soon. A Steam page for Afterimage is now live and you can add the game to your wishlist to follow up on any further updates of the title. Apart from PC, Afterimage is also releasing on consoles.
