This Control Resonant guide details how you can complete the Into The Valley of Death side quest in the game easily. In this quest, you must collect the key to Langston’s apartment, track down his missing cat Alfred, and help him defeat Maria. Make sure you collect the apartment key from Langston at the Field Office before heading into the Sinkhole, or you won’t be able to complete the quest properly.
Into The Valley of Death Quest Guide – Control Resonant
The quest may direct you towards the Sinkhole first, but begin by travelling to the Field Office using a nearby fast travel door first.
Find Langston and speak with him to receive the key to his apartment.
Once you have the key, return to the fast travel point and travel to the Evacuation Zone. Head towards the main street marked on the map.
Once you are there, make your way into the Sinkhole through a door in the building to the left with two flashing lights on the entrance. Once you enter the area, move forward along the path through a door and a staircase to go down. You will eventually encounter a door that takes a few seconds to open, so wait nearby until you can continue, and then follow along the route. Eventually you reach an edge, and you will now have to go to the lower level.
Look for the route marked Personal Access and descend to the lower level. Follow the yellow line through the corridors, watching for directional arrows along the way.
When the path points upward, jump onto the higher platforms and continue climbing until you reach a Ranger sitting near a television. From there, follow the yellow line marked with the number 3 on the wall. This route leads directly to Langston’s apartment door.
Enter the apartment to begin searching for Alfred.
Inside, you will find a cat feeder with a camera that allows Langston to communicate with you. Interact with it and listen to his dialogue.
Next, examine the scratch marks on the wall, followed by the blood on the floor. Report the findings as requested.
After investigating these clues, pick up the cat feeder and carry it into the bedroom. Place it inside the cat carrier so the two objects are combined. You can now take the carrier with you to search for Alfred in the Sinkhole.
Langston explains that Alfred has left a trail of damaged plants throughout the Sinkhole. Look for the scattered plants on the floor and follow their trail through the surrounding rooms.
The trail leads past a couch; from here you can make a jump over to the section ahead. Keep checking the floor for more damaged plants and occasional paw prints to confirm you’re going in the right direction.
Continue following the clues until you reach a bedroom overlooking the area. At this point, Langston will hear Alfred meowing, giving you another clue about where the cat may be hiding.
You now need to find a bedroom with a television switched on. From the room where the plant trail ends, look to the right for a lounge with a working TV.
This is the room, directly across from the TV room where you found the Ranger earlier. Move ahead in the room, take a left turn, and go through a passage to enter the bedroom. Place the cat carrier inside and interact with the keyboard in the bedroom.
You must also remove all four plants from the room. Two of them will be beside the bookshelf and the two near the TV. Pick them up and throw them out of the bedroom.
Once everything is ready, Langston will contact you over the radio and tell you to leave the area. Head back toward the Ranger near the television by jumping across from the room and wait for a short while before returning. Alfred should now be inside the carrier.
After collecting Alfred, you’ll need to investigate a scream coming from the nearby area. Return to the place where the Ranger was sitting and look for his body on the floor.
Put the carrier down beside the body and report what you find. Once you’ve completed the investigation, pick up the carrier again. Your next objective is to follow Alfred’s meows toward the creature responsible.
Listen carefully to Alfred’s meows as you move through the Sinkhole. If you take the wrong route, the cat will meow to indicate that you’re heading in the wrong direction.
To make navigation easier, look for the blood trail on the floor. Follow it downward through the different levels, checking for more blood as you go. The trail will eventually lead you toward the area where Maria is waiting.
When you encounter Maria, defeat her during the first phase of the fight. Once this stage is over, pick up Alfred’s carrier and take it to the crack in the wall with a red beam of light coming out of it. Place the carrier in front of the opening.
Maria will then move around the area, and you’ll need to help Alfred attack her. Watch the direction in which she travels and move ahead of her path. The red beam light, which is a hiss, is your clue as it travels through different windows. Maria moves in straight lines, so position yourself where she is about to appear and call Alfred when she reaches that spot.
Repeat this process as Maria changes direction. The timing can be tricky, so focus on anticipating where she will go next rather than following directly behind her.
After Alfred has helped weaken Maria, she’ll emerge again, allowing you to fight and defeat her properly. Once the battle is over, pick up the carrier containing Alfred.
Your final task is to leave Alfred beside the Ranger’s body. To get back, follow the flashing blue lights that guide you toward the exit.
In the room where you need to change gravity, shift onto the wall and use your gravity ability to reach the next passage. Continue through the connected rooms until you reach the platforming section.
Climb the platforms one by one, using your jumps and gravity-switching ability to reach higher ground. Keep moving upward until you return to the area with the Ranger’s body and television.
Place the carrier beside the body to finish the quest. Completing Into the Valley of Death rewards you with the Untapped Catnip Toy.
