Team17 has announced two new Worms games currently in development, marking the return of the long-running franchise with Worms Galactic Tactics and a separate title simply called Worms. The former is being developed by Absolutely Games, the studio behind Classified: France ’44, and is scheduled to launch on PC and consoles in 2027.
Worms Galactic Tactics combines the series’ familiar turn-based tactical combat and destructible environments with a roguelike structure. The game is set during the Galactic Gauntlet, a tournament held in honor of the self-absorbed Emperor Flugg, who serves as the central antagonist.
Players will build a squad of three worms, with each member equipped with their own loadout. The arsenal retains the series’ trademark absurdity, including weapons such as exploding sheep, Cosmic Donkeys, and holy hand grenades.
The tactical battles will unfold across destructible environments, with players fighting through successive encounters as they attempt to defeat Flugg. Between battles, players can acquire offensive and defensive modifications for their weapons and utility equipment, allowing them to adapt their loadouts to the challenges ahead.
Weapon mods will vary in rarity and provide different effects. Some can improve the impact of critical hits against enemy armor, while others can set terrain ablaze. These modifications are designed to give players more strategic options as they progress through repeated roguelike runs.
Permanent upgrades will also form part of the progression system, adding another layer to the traditional Worms formula. The combination of randomized runs, weapon modifications, and persistent progression is intended to make each attempt different while adding more tactical decision-making to the series’ familiar explosive combat.
Alongside Worms Galactic Tactics, Absolutely Games is also working on a second project simply titled Worms. Team17 describes it as an updated take on the classic Worms experience that has defined the franchise for more than three decades. Details about the game remain limited, with further information planned for a later date.
Worms Galactic Tactics is currently slated for release on PC via Steam and consoles in 2027. Team17 has not yet announced a release date or platforms for the separately developed Worms title; however, you can add Worms Galactic Tactics to your wishlist right now.
