Co-Op Shooter Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 Announced, Expands the Xenomorph War with a Sequel Set in the Aliens Universe

Developer Cold Iron Studios and publisher Daybreak Game Company, in collaboration with 20th Century Games, have announced Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2. The sequel to 2021’s hit co-op game is slated for launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store later this summer.

The sequel builds on the foundation established by the original Aliens: Fireteam Elite, which earned a dedicated following by translating the chaos and tension of James Cameron’s Aliens into a squad-based shooter experience focused on Colonial Marines battling overwhelming xenomorph hordes. While the original supported three-player squads, the sequel expands combat to four-player co-op, leading to larger encounters and more aggressive battlefield fights.

Set once again within the iconic Alien universe, Fireteam Elite 2 drops players into dangerous new environments filled with xenomorph infestations, Weyland-Yutani combat synths, and mutated Pathogen enemies. What begins as a standard rescue mission quickly escalates into a full-scale survival operation as players navigate corridors, industrial facilities, and hostile combat zones where enemies can emerge from virtually anywhere.

Cold Iron Studios says the sequel places a heavier emphasis on tactical squad coordination and combat flexibility. One of the biggest additions is the new customizable Specialist class system, allowing players to create unique builds rather than relying entirely on rigid class archetypes. Weapons, abilities, and support tools can now be mixed more freely across different loadouts, giving squads greater control over how they approach missions.

That added customization is designed to deepen replayability while supporting different playstyles across the game’s increasingly chaotic encounters. The sequel also promises expanded horde warfare sequences where players must manage resources, positioning, and overlapping enemy threats simultaneously.

According to the developers, Fireteam Elite 2 is intended to lean further into both the action-heavy military combat of Aliens and the franchise’s signature horror atmosphere. Xenomorphs are said to ambush players more dynamically, forcing squads to react quickly as encounters shift from tense corridor exploration into large-scale defensive firefights.

With four-player co-op, expanded progression systems, and deeper character customization, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 will arrive this summer on PC via Epic Games Store and Steam, along with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
