Arc Games and Snapshop Games have announced the launch of the third and final Early Access update called Into The Abyss for FROSTHAVEN. FROSTHAVEN is a tactical RPG board game that was released in Early Access back in, and since then, the title has continued to grow with regular updates. With the release of Into The Abyss, the developer is wrapping up the development in the Early Access phase and will prepare the game for its 1.0 launch.
FROSTHAVEN is a digital adaptation of the critically acclaimed board game of the same name, and it is an evolution of the classic board game. This dark fantasy tactical RPG is a spiritual successor of Gloomhaven, which offers deep mechanics and challenging yet satisfying gameplay in single-player and co-op online multiplayer. The game is not only made for board game veterans but also tailored for new players with multiple difficulty levels. It features new character classes, each offering unique playstyles and abilities to allow players to find the best synergies between different characters in their party.
FROSTHAVEN Into The Abyss Update Brings Lurker Storyline, New Heroes and More
Snashop Games, led by the creator of X-COM, Julian Gollop, and board game creator Isaac Childress, and Cephalofair Games have released the details of the new Into The Abyss update. Set in the Biting Sea, the update expands the narrative of FROSTHAVEN centered on the Lurkers and adds two brand-new heroes to the game. These are:
- Coral channels the power of the sea, manipulating tides and battlefield positioning to control encounters and overwhelm enemies.
- Kelp lurks in the shadows and specializes in assassinating enemies, collecting trophies from their victims, and using them to grow stronger.
Apart from the new heroes, the update also brings new content, including:
- Lurker Storyline & Quests: Dive deeper into the mysteries of the Biting Sea and uncover the truth behind a powerful ancient artifact.
- 2 New Playable Heroes: Unlock two new classes and introduce new strategies and synergies into your party.
- New Pet – Brummix: Complete your menagerie with the final and most difficult to obtain pet – Brummix. Only the most observant heroes will be able to find all the traces of this elusive creature!
- Town Hall Challenges: Take on nine new challenges to further enhance your town defenses.
- Outpost Updates: Improvements to the Outpost experience, adding greater clarity and progression tracking.
- New Notification System: Stay informed with updates on Outpost activity and events between quests.
- Calendar System: Track upcoming and past gameplay and story events more easily.
- Character Retirement Flow Updates: Improved pacing to prevent interruptions during multiplayer sessions.
- Blinkblade Card Layout Updates: Optional settings to reflect the original board game layout.
- Advantage State Flow Update: Expanded descriptions and clarity during combat and modifier selection.
FROSTHAVEN is currently available in Early Access on PC via Steam, and its final Early Access update, Into The Abyss, is now live for all players. It marks the end of the current development cycle of the game, as developers will now aim for its full release. Additional details about the 1.0 release will be announced at a later date.
