UK-based tabletop gaming studio Steamforged Games has launched its highly anticipated tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) and board game adaptations of the iconic RuneScape franchise, collectively known as RuneScape Kingdoms. These games are now available for purchase from various platforms, including Amazon, Steamforged, the official RuneScape merch store, and numerous independent tabletop stores, starting February 29th.
Developed in collaboration with Jagex, the renowned developer behind the RuneScape franchise, RuneScape Kingdoms draws inspiration from the beloved RuneScape video game universe, known for its record-breaking success and deep community engagement.
Announced in 2022, RuneScape Kingdoms: The Roleplaying Game and RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg have been eagerly awaited by fans. RuneScape Kingdoms: Shadow of Elvarg, initially crowdfunded on Kickstarter, received overwhelming support from more than 6,600 backers. Both games are set within the fantasy kingdom of Gielinor, offering faithful adaptations of classic quests and characters from the RuneScape universe.
Mat Hart, co-founder and Creative Director at Steamforged Games, expressed excitement about the release, stating, “We’re looking forward to getting the RuneScape Kingdoms board game and tabletop roleplaying game into the hands of fans and seeing the response!” Hart emphasized the collaborative effort between Steamforged Games and Jagex to ensure that RuneScape Kingdoms offers an authentic experience for both new and existing RuneScape fans.
RuneScape Kingdoms: The Roleplaying Game introduces a bespoke system tailored specifically for the TTRPG experience. With a streamlined three d6 dice mechanic, the system aims to capture the unique magic of the RuneScape universe while providing game masters with tools to deliver immersive gameplay experiences. The game includes a detailed guide to the world of Gielinor, covering character creation, magic systems, crafting mechanics, and a bestiary featuring iconic RuneScape monsters.
