IO Interactive and Amazon MGM have released the second episode of “Beyond the Light,” a dev diary series for 007 First Light. The new installment centers on the game’s cast and character development, offering insight into how narrative design, performance capture, and character artistry shape the upcoming title ahead of its May 27, 2026, launch. Announced last year in June, 007 First Light is James Bond’s latest video game stint, and it comes after many years.

IO Interactive is known for creating some of the best HITMAN games in the past few years, and we can see some of those similarities in the new 007 First Light trailers. While both franchises are different from each other, there is still a similar theme between the two titles. Both James Bond and Agent 47 rely on stealth and over-the-top action to complete their objectives. Gadgets play a critical role in both characters’ inventory. The past HITMAN titles offered wide sandbox-type maps with plenty of paths and ways to complete a mission. It is interesting to see how the developer is incorporating its experience into the new 007 game.

The episode features Martin Emborg, Narrative and Cinematics Director at IO Interactive, and Beatrice Harty, Lead and Senior Character Artist, discussing how story direction and cinematic presentation intersect with character modeling and in-game performance. The diary outlines the process from early concept work through motion capture and final implementation, emphasizing how the team aims to present a grounded and expressive interpretation of its characters.

Cast members also appear in the episode, including Patrick Gibson as James Bond, Noémie Nakai as Agent Roth, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, and Alastair McKenzie as Q. The actors discuss their roles in shaping this reimagined origin story, which presents a standalone take on the early years of Bond. According to the developers, performance and character dynamics play a central role in establishing the tone and emotional framework of the narrative.
