Sony has revealed its 2019 Q1 fiscal year report and has reported that it managed to sell around 3.2 million PS4 consoles during this period. The period which runs from April 1 to June 31, 2019, was a solid quarter for Sony and it managed to touch the total sales figure of 100 million for PS4. This is a staggering huge figure for a console that was released just 5 years ago and we know that this will not stop here despite the rumors of PlayStation 5 arriving next year.
This also makes the PS4 the fastest-selling console in the world to hit the 100 million marker. Earlier, this record was held by Nintendo Wii however Sony managed to break this record with only 5 years and 7 months which is 2 months less than Wii. This is still a huge target to achieve because, before this, Wii was considered to be the best-sold console in the entire world. PS4 is now officially the fastest-selling console in the world to sell 100 million units worldwide.
However, since PS5 is slated to arrive next year, we are expecting and even Sony states it that the PS4 sales will gradually decrease. 2 Of the biggest releases are planned for PS4 in the coming months which includes Death Stranding this fall and The Last of Us: Part II to arrive next spring, PS4 still has the last hope for a sales push during the release of these two titles. Sony is not expecting much when it comes to an increase of PS4 sales.
Sony PS4 has enjoyed huge success ever since it was released mainly because of the amazing exclusive titles. Since the release, PS4 has been receiving solid support from its first-party developers and we were able to enjoy titles such as Infamous: Second Son, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Gran Turismo Sport, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Bloodborne. We still waiting for Death Stranding and The Last of Us: Part II to arrive before PS5.
