Xiaomi has revealed a new wireless charger that can charge devices at a whopping 80W and it helps it achieve blazing fast charging times. Xiaomi announced its new a new 80W wireless method that the company claims beats out any other competitor. The 80W wireless charger is said to be able to charge a 4,000mAh battery up to 50 percent full in eight minutes and 100 percent full in 19 minutes.
Xiaomi is looking to top its own wireless charging prowess. Xiaomi already has the fastest wireless charging on a shipping phone; the Mi 10 Ultra has 50W wireless technology that can fully charge its 4,500mAh battery in 40 minutes. Xiaomi is also currently battling its Chinese competitor Oppo who recently announced a 65W wireless charging solution but that hasn’t arrived commercially in a device.
In the reveal event, Xiaomi said the following about the 80 W wireless charger.
80W Mi Wireless Charging Technology is capable of filling a 4,000 mAh battery to 10% in 1 minute, 50% in 8 minutes and 100% in just 19 minutes. For comparison, 30W Mi Wireless Charging Technology from 2019 was capable of charging a similar battery to 50% in about 25 minutes, and 100% in 69 minutes.
Fast Wireless charging is very common in China and that is why Chinese brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Huawei have been competing to outdo each other. Xiaomi has not announced when a phone with 80W wireless charging will actually ship, but it should not be too far off.
Xiaomi has consistently released phones with ever-higher wireless power specs over the past couple of years, with the Mi 10 Ultra only coming out a couple of months ago. We will have to wait and see how Xiaomi is planning to commercialize the 80 W Wireless charger.
