The Last of Us: Part 2 could be a brutal or easy journey for you depending on how good you are with the game. It is still good if you have a decent knowledge of basic mechanics along with some additional tips and tricks to help you out in the game before you jump into the game. For this very purpose, we have curated this The Last of Us: Part 2 Beginner’s Guide in which we have shared some tips and tricks with you that will ensure that you survive on Ellie’s brutal journey easily.
Beginner’s Guide – The Last of Us: Part 2
Our The Last of Us: Part 2 Beginner’s Guide details everything that you need to know while starting The Last of Us: Part 2 for the very first time.
Crafting is Crucial for Survival
Crafting plays a vital role in The Last of Us: Part 2. You will mostly find crafting components rather than items such as bombs, healing kits, and more so you must always craft items and keep them in your inventory for future use. In addition, you must pre-craft so that the items are ready for use when you are playing the game. If you start crafting right in the face of enemies shooting at you, you will not survive for long. Certain items use the same crafting components such as the Healing Kit and the Molotov so you must try to maintain a balance between such items. Never focus on just one item. Always try to have at least one of every item in your inventory. For details on crafting recipes, make sure that you check out our Crafting Guide.
Thoroughly Explore Every Location
The Last of Us: Part 2 is essentially a linear game, but certain locations are big and offer multiple approach paths. During certain areas, you will not be able to explore as well because of enemies prowling around. I will highly recommend that you always explore every location in detail and do not rush towards the next area. Make sure that you have collected any collectibles or resources hiding in the nooks and crannies of the area. If you have enemies, first clear the area and then come back to explore the area at your ease. Always look for crafting components because they help in your crafting and thus ultimately in your survival.
Open Safes and Locked Boxes for Supplies and Collectibles
As you explore the world of The Last of Us: Part 2, you will find plenty of locked safes around the maps. These safes can only be opened if you find their codes. While their codes are found in the locations near them, if you need a quick solution, you can check out our Safe Codes Guide to find codes to every safe in the game so that you do not have to find them yourself.
Hunting Collectibles is Easy
Like the original, The Last of Us, The Last of Us: Part 2 also comes with tons of collectibles for you to find. However, since the game is much bigger this time around, you will need to find a lot more collectibles as well. Lucky for you, the game comes with a handy mechanic that will allow you to find these hidden collectibles easily in the game even if you are not a true completionist. Heading to the settings tab will allow you to turn on the High Contrast Mode and the Enhanced Listening Mode. With the first turned on, all the items and objects with which you can interact are marked on the screen when you swipe on the touchpad. Enhanced Listen Mode pings every time a collectible is near you. Use them to your advantage.
Scouting is Good Before Engaging Enemies
Some of the areas in The Last of Us: Part 2 are not as small as the first game. You will have big areas filled with enemies in the game, so it is always helpful if you first scout the area for possible enemy locations and then formulate a strategy of taking down enemies. Try to take out as many enemies as possible in stealth before engaging in gunfire as noise will attract all of the enemies at you at once and this is something that you cannot afford in the game. Always plan before getting into a big fight. If things turn for the worse, you can always spring your way to safety like the first game.
Switch to a More Playable Difficulty
The Last of Us: Part 2 is one of the biggest exclusives to arrive on PS4 and a lot of players will be playing the game even if they are not hardcore gamers. To cater to a large variety of players, The Last of Us: Part 2 comes with plenty of difficulty settings that are way more than simply choosing Easy, Medium, or Hard. If you want to play according to your custom difficulty settings, choose any difficulty while starting the game at the beginning and then head to options and difficulty. Here you can choose different settings like the number of resources you can find, the effectiveness of allies in combat, difficulty levels of enemies, and much more. If you miss this opportunity at the start, you do not have to worry about a thing. All these options are available to you at any time while playing the game.
