1C Entertainment and Cultic Games have released a brand new trailer for their Lovecraftian horror CRPG Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones. The new trailer for Stygian also reveals the release date of the title and now we know that Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is creeping across the platforms this September.
Stygian features a unique hand-drawn take on the stories of H.P. Lovecraft. The developers have gone a completely new direction for the genre as the game has gorgeously grotesque hand-drawn visuals. Players will be able to participate in turn-based RPG inside a mysterious and broken world. The game is set in the 1920s and there is no fixed protagonist to play with. The game offers players the option to pick their own unique character from a selection of eight different archetypes.
These archetypes are also pulled from the pages of cosmic horror history which range from academics to occultists. Each archetype comes with its own unique skill, attributes and belief systems. The belief system in Stygian will determine how the characters cope with the warped reality of the world around them and play a vital role in the game.
Check out the brand new release date trailer for Stygian below.
Stygian features a powerful 2D turn-based combat system as players will need to fight fanatic cultists, monsters and creatures from the universe the game derives inspiration from. Players will need to ensure that they don’t lose their sanity while fighting these monsters as keeping oneself sane is equally important as trying to remain alive physically.
Key features of Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones include:
- A hand-drawn 2D world reflecting Lovecraft’s themes of cosmic horror and dread.
- Enemies, environments, and storylines inspired by Lovecraft’s iconic original works. Take part in quests inspired by your favorite stories and see them play out according to your own decisions and role-playing style.
- Choose from 8 main character Archetypes, each with its own origin backstory and specialties.
- A host of weird companions to accompany you on your ill-starred journey: the lonely, antediluvian ‘Outsider’, a fallen soldier of the Great War reanimated by Herbert West. Recruit these and other outlandish beings to your crew.
- Your character’s Sanity and mental state influence their available dialogue options, offering both advantages and hindrances. Sometimes it pays to be mad in a world gone mad!
- Stygian’s Belief System determines how your characters cope with the warped reality of the new Arkham, as well as the rate at which they regenerate lost Sanity. Belief Systems also offer unique dialogue options, expanding the breadth of role-playing possibilities.
- A new kind of spell system which sometimes takes more than it gives. Being a master of the occult is not as simple as flinging colored missiles from your fingertips. The black magic of Stygian is potent but may cost you your mind, your health, and possibly even more.
- Strategic, turn-based combat from a 2D perspective, similar to the classic Heroes of Might and Magic games.
Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones is slated for release on PC via Steam on September 26, 2019.
