PlayStation 5 Production

CES 2020 officially kicked off today and Sony was quick to jump into action revealing some brand new, confirmed details of the upcoming PlayStation 5 or PS5 for short. One of the most important reveals from Sony was the new logo for PlayStation 5 which frankly speaking does not look much different from the traditional PS logos we have seen in the past. Apart from the logo reveal, we also got a decent set of new and confirmed specifications of the upcoming console by Sony.

The logo for PS5 was revealed by none other than PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan who presented the logo along with other details. We already know that PS5 has a launch window of Holiday 2020 similar to Microsoft’s Xbox Series X however Sony did not reveal a confirmed release date at this point. However, Ryan did mention that Sony will now continue to reveal more and more information about PS5 in the coming months since this year we are finally transitioning to the next generation of consoles.

Apart from the logo, we now also have confirmation of some of the major features of PS5. These include 3D Audio Sound, Hardware-Based Ray Tracing, Ultra-High Speed SSD, Haptics/Adaptive Triggers, Ultra-HD Blu-Ray. If you are curious about the controller design, we recently got a leak of what seems to be a devkit of PS5 and it shows us the controller of PS5 in its full glory. You can check it out below however it is not confirmed at this point whether this is the final design of the controller or whether this is the official devkit for PS5 at all.

During their CES 2020 keynote, Ryan also stated that PS4 has crossed the 106 Million mark in terms of global sales. PS VR crossed the mark of 5 million units sold. December 2019 had 103 million monthly active users while PS Plus subscribers touched 38.8 million. PS4 still has plenty of life left even with PS5 fast approaching Fall 2020. We’ve got some solid titles lined up for 2020 on PS4 such as Media Molecule’s Dreams, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, The Last of Us: Part II and Ghost of Tsushima which came out of the darkness on The Game Awards 2019.
