Dozens of Employees Laid Off From Sony Europe After PS5 Release Announcement

Sony Employees

Apparently dozens of employees working at Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe have been laid off just after the PlayStation 5 release confirmation. A report made by the Video Games Chronicle has stated that the SIEE has laid off many employees with an announcement that was internally made in the company.

Many of the employees that lost their jobs were in contact with the Video Games Chronicle talking about the sacking. The report also revealed some affected employees saying that the company has done so to unify the different branches of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

One of the affected employees had also tweeted out, however, they have since removed the tweet. The tweet in question said that “I hate that this is going to be drowned out by the #PS5 announcement.”

While another person by the name of JC, who recognizes as one of the laid-off employees, had this to say,

I was part of the creative services team at #PlayStation that got #laidoff today. This group of talented & passionate people are out of a job & now #lookingforwork. If you’re hiring for project coordinators, managers, & designers please post below!

Sony has been on the change recently, by cutting off the prices of PlayStation Now and the former chairman of the company Shawn Layden having left the company last month. That, however, was announced by the official Sony Twitter account.

It is certainly disappointing for the employees that have been laid off, and affected by this sudden move to find new jobs. On the other hand, Xbox’s Aaron Greenberg came out in support of the fired employees, stating that Xbox is hiring for several positions in the Seattle are. If employees don’t mind moving to a new city, then they might have a chance for working at Xbox.
