We all remember the amazing Silent Hills demo which was released on the PS Store for PS4 as P.T. which was later pulled from the store after the game was canceled following Kojima’s departure from the company. Players have since kept the demo safe in their PS4 consoles because if the demo is already on your PS4’s HDD, you can still play it, despite it being removed from the PSN Store. However, Polygon has revealed that P.T. will not run on PS5 consoles.
According to Polygon’s report, PS5 will not be able to run P.T. with its backward compatibly feature. This is because since P.T. is not available on the PSN store anymore, the only way to move the game to a PS5 is via HDD transfer and Konami has made sure that it is not possible. According to Polygon’s report, they tried running the demo earlier on a PS5 console and it worked fine. However, after a factory reset, the demo refused to transfer.
Because of this, players will not be able to transfer the P.T. demo from their PS4 console to the PS5’s internal SSD. This might change in the future with expanded storage arriving as a later update but as of now, the internal storage will not allow P.T. to be transferred. The report also states that Sony has said that this decision falls in the hands of Konami and it is Konami who made this decision of the demo not being playable on the next-gen console.
This means that if you really want to keep the extremely rare demo of P.T. with you, you will have to keep hold of your PS4 until some other way arrives in the future that will allow you to play the demo on a PS5 console. With the Silent Hill franchise completely in the shadow, the arrival of the next-gen console also reignites the hope that Sony or Konami might be interested in reviving the franchise and release a new Silent Hill game for fans who are patiently waiting for a new game.
