Fortnite is played by thousands if not millions of people around the world and the access to the game is pretty easy because it is free-to-play. Prince Harry recently talked about the game and he mentioned that it is more addictive than drugs, just like social media. He claims that parents do not know what to do and that it could ruin childhood and families.
While I am sure that Prince Harry has great intentions and the excess of everything is bad, I think that banning a game would be a little extreme. While there are children that are addicted to the game, there are other people that play it for a reasonable time. The following is what Prince Harry had to say about Fortnite:
A game like Fortnite for instance may not be so good for children. Parents have got their hands up; they don’t know what to do about it. It’s like waiting for the damage to be done and kids turning up on your doorsteps and families being broken down. Fortnite shouldn’t be allowed. Where is the benefit in having that game in your household?
I admit that playing a game for too long can cause issues but I have been a gamer for more than 10 years now. I was in that teen phase where I would play games all day but then it all went away with the passage of time. When you go to high school or university you just do not have all that time to play games and I think that this is something that you learn while you are growing up. It all comes into place sooner or later. Prince Harry further went on to mention the following:
It’s created to addict – an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It’s so irresponsible.
I would say that all developers want their games to be played as much as possible and you really can’t blame Epic for making a great game. Parents should take greater responsibility and keep an eye on the amount of screen time that their children get.
