Pokemon Legends: Z-A Shiny Pokemon Guide – How to Get Shiny Pokemon

Shiny Pokemon have always been special because of their rarity, but in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, they behave a little differently compared to past games. This time in the game, there are no easy shiny odds, increasing items, or helpful mechanics like the mass outbreaks in Scarlet & Violet. In this Pokemon Legends: Z-A Shiny Pokemon Guide, we will see how you can find and catch some shiny Pokemon in the game.

Shiny Pokemon Guide – Pokemon Legends: Z-A

One of the best things about shiny Pokemon in the game is that they do not disappear when you leave an area of the city. Once you see them, they remain in the same place where you spot them until you interact with them directly or catch them.

When you first see a shiny Pokemon, the game saves that data in its memory after an autosave or manual save. This save will reserve that spawn point for that shiny Pokemon. So, now you can safely leave the area knowing well that it will still be there later for you to catch.

There are some points that you should know about when the shiny Pokemon will stay and disappear.

Shiny Pokemon will stay if:

  • You fail to catch it with a Poké Ball.
  • You black out.
  • You leave the area.
  • You do not interact with it.

Shiny Pokemon will disappear if:

  • You faint it by knocking it out and bringing its HP to 0.
  • It runs away (like an Abra).
  • The day or night cycle changes before an autosave happens.

Shiny Pokemon Guide – Shiny Odds & How to Increase

The default shiny odds in the game are 1 in 4,096. You can increase your chances by getting the Shiny Charm, which increases the odds to 1 in 1,024, making shiny four times more likely to appear.

However, getting the Shiny Charm is not easy. You can only get it after reaching level 50 in Mabel’s Research, which takes a massive amount of effort. On average, it takes over 100 hours to reach that level and claim the charm.

Shiny Pokemon Guide – Ways to Shiny Hunt

Three main shiny Pokemon hunting methods work well in the game.

  1. Fast Travel Method

Fast Travel is the simplest and fastest way to hunt shiny. Whenever you fast travel, all Pokemon within a 50-meter range of that location spawn in, even if you can’t see them right away.

Fast traveling also triggers an autosave, so any shiny Pokemon that appear in that location will remain there. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Find a Pokemon that spawns near a fast travel point within 50 meters of range.
  2. Fast travel to another location.
  3. Fast travel back to where you first spotted the shiny, and you will see it present there.
  4. Repeat the process.

Every time you fast travel, the game rerolls the shiny odds.

  1. Exploration Method

You will see some Pokemon that can not be found near fast travel points. These appear only in isolated areas around Lumiose City. For this, follow the steps below.

  1. Locate the Pokemon you want to shiny hunt.
  2. If it’s not shiny, move far enough away until it disappears from your view.
  3. Go back to the same spot so it respawns, and it will respawn with new shiny hunt odds.
  4. Keep repeating this process until a shiny shows up.
  1. Tower Reset Method

There is a tower that is in the middle of a garden, in Wild Zone 3. You can see that at its entrance, Alpha Litleo is guarding it, and at the top is an Alpha Fletchling. When you enter or leave this tower by going up and down, it will reset all Pokemon in the Wild Zone. This event will also reset the shiny odds.

When you hold down the left stick while entering the tower, your character will keep running up and down the tower automatically, constantly resetting the Wild Zone spawns.
