The Pain is one of the more annoying bosses in the game due to the fact that he can control bees and they form impenetrable shields around him which makes your weapons useless. Unless you know the right strategy to defeat him, this can be a tricky boss battle. He is also the first member of the Cobra Unit that you engage in the main campaign. Our Metal Gear Solid Delta The Pain Boss Battle Guide details everything that you need to know about defeating The Pain both lethally and non-lethally.
The Pain Boss Battle Guide – Metal Gear Solid Delta
The Pain might be the first Cobra Unit boss you face but he rakes up the difficulty quite highly. This two-phase battle will see the boss using a variety of attacks, including summoning bees and unleashing them on you. But like all bosses, he is not invincible, and we have some tricks for you to use against him. The Pain will be surrounded by a lot of bees which shield him from incoming attacks. He can not only use them for defense, but quite often, he will command them to attack you as well.
Make sure that you have Smoke Grenades before starting this battle because they will make it significantly easier. When the boss summons bees as defense, just chuck a smoke grenade at him, and the bees will be gone instantly. If you do not have smoke grenades, you can also try the standard frag grenades. Throw two and if they hit, the bees will be gone. Having the Grenade Camouflage uniform helps massively in this boss battle because it will keep restocking your grenades during the fight.
Normal frag grenades are available for pickup inside the boss battle arena as well, so make use of them freely if you run out of Smoke Grenades. If you have an M37 in your inventory, you can use it to remove the bees as well. The Pain has multitude of attacks that will unleash bees on you and the bees stick to you, your only defense is to jump in the water and remain under water for a small time to get rid of them. Use the water when you get caught in the pheromone attack, the bee gun or the grenades. It works excellently against any sort of attack where bees are unleashed on you.
Lethal Takedown
Now, to deal actual damage to the boss. As we mentioned above, you cannot damage the boss until the bees are gone from him. Use the Grenades, frag or smoke, to get rid of the bees, and then switch to your primary weapon and unleash it on him. You are free to use any weapon that you want. Make sure to take as many headshots as possible for maximum effect. The bees will return after some time, so use the same grenade strategy. Jump into the water to avoid bees when you need to and keep repeating this until the boss dies.
Non-Lethal Takedown
Fora non-lethal takedown, this battle is going to take a lot of your time. You will need to stick with the Mk22 weapon and aim for the boss’s head. Use grenades to get rid of the bees and then use the Mk22 for damage. You can use the Grenade Camouflage uniform to make it easier to restock the grenades. Jump onto one of the platforms and stick to it until the boss forces you off it. Some attacks, like the boss’s grenades, will land on the platform, so to avoid them, just jump into the water. Keep at it with patience and you will eventually take the boss down.
