Guns ’n Goblins Brings Horde FPS Action to PC With Castle Defense Mechanics

Guns 'n Goblins

French indie developers Lance and SoulGame have announced Guns ’n Goblins, a new PC title that blends incremental progression with horde-based first-person shooter combat. Developed in collaboration with Séverin Larose, known for work on Minishoot’ Adventures, the game centers on defending a castle against increasingly large waves of monsters.

Set around a lone surviving fortress known as the Bell Bastion, the game places players in the role of the final Bell Ringer, tasked with holding back nightly invasions from massive monster swarms. Rather than focusing on traditional mission-based progression, Guns ’n Goblins is built around repeatable survival runs where players gradually improve both their character and their defenses over time.

Combat is designed around large-scale encounters, with thousands of enemies able to appear on screen at once. Players begin with basic weapons but can steadily unlock stronger firearms and more destructive tools capable of taking on larger threats, including dragons. A central mechanic allows players to control the pace of each run by ringing the bell to intentionally summon even more enemies at once, increasing both risk and reward.

Outside combat, progression follows an incremental structure where upgrades carry over between runs instead of being lost on death. Players can level up their character, unlock stronger perks, and improve their bastion with the help of various NPCs encountered throughout the game. The studio describes the system as permanent progression-focused, designed to keep each session productive even after failed runs.

According to the developers, the idea began with a simple question: why were there so few first-person shooters built around incremental systems and massive enemy hordes? That concept evolved into a project focused on constant progression, high enemy density, and a more relaxed but still highly scalable survival loop.
