Polish indie developer Sonka has released a new gameplay video of its upcoming psychological horror survival game Holstin as the Steam demo for the game goes live. Holstin is set in an eerie, isolated 90s Polish town that is consumed by an ominous presence and you arrive here looking for answers. Your investigation is unable to progress since all of the people living in the town seem to be possessed by something foul. Check out the new gameplay video for Holstin below before we jump into additional details:
The 15-minute long video showcases the first of three planned demos for Holstin called The Janowski House. The video showcases environmental puzzles, 2XD rendering along with the oozing atmosphere of the game. The 2XD Rendering Technology is an in-house technology built by Sonka that allows the developer to create real-time lighting and a 3D camera in pixel-art environments. You can see it in action in the trailer above. Holstin is heavily inspired by horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill series with the narrative team aiming for a darker Twin Peaks feel.
The other two demos planned will be released sometime in 2023 as well however a confirmed release date is not known for either one of them. Make sure to check back here as we will be updating once the release dates are announced. The second demo titled ‘The Underground Tunnels’ will showcase combat and how you can survive in the game while the third and final demo called ‘Jeniorne – Kolinia’ will showcase non-linear exploration, questing for NPCs, even more enemies, and a higher difficulty level as it will be much harder to survive in the game.
