GTA Remastered Trilogy Rumored to be in Development for Consoles Including Switch

GTA Remastered Trilogy

A GTA Remastered Trilogy is rumored to be in development for consoles including the Nintendo Switch and it is slated to arrive this fall. The GTA Remastered Trilogy will include GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas and all three remasters will be made in Unreal Engine and will feature a mix of new and old graphics.

While Rockstar Games has been awfully quiet on the announcement, this new rumor comes as a confirmed report from sources of Kotaku who state that Rockstar Games is actively developing remastered versions of all three of the classic PS2 era GTA titles. According to Kotuku, the studio behind the development of these remasters is Rockstar Dundee, a Scottish studio of Rockstar Games and also one of the newest studios formed by the company. Another source detailed to Kotaku that Rockstar Dundee is also working on the upcoming GTA V next-gen ports.

Rockstar Dundee was previously Ruffian Games, and it was made a part of Rockstar after the company acquired the developer. The studio has prior working experience on Crackdown 2, Crackdown 3 and also assisted with the development of the Master Chief Collection. While there is no official release date or even a confirmation at this point from Rockstar, the report claims that the remasters will release for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch including mobile devices around late October or early November.

GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas are three titles that set the bar for video games in their own times. Despite the hardware limitations back then, Rockstar Games delivered some of the best open-world action titles with GTA San Andreas being the most feature-rich GTA title to this date. It will be great to see them coming back to life as remasters for modern consoles and we would love to revisit all three titles with better visuals. The gameplay of remasters will remain as close to the original titles as possible.
