Google Stadia Pro Will Not Have Essential Features At Launch

Google Stadia Pro

Google Stadia director of product Andrey Doronichev talked about Stadia Pro in a recent Reddit AMA and he answered some questions that the fans had. He mentioned that subscribers will get one free game every month starting off with Destiny 2. While the game is going free-to-play, you will get the Shadowkeep expansion which is not free.

From what Doronichev had to say about Google Stadia Pro, it seems like some essential features will not be there at launch. He mentioned that mods and achievements will not be supported at launch and that these features will be added down the line. Other features such as family share will be released in early 2020.

Non-standard resolutions will be supported sometime down the line but for now, Google is focusing on 720p, 1080p and 4K. This means that 1440p could be supported down the line as well. Doronichev mentioned that Google Stadia Pro is not Netflix for games but more like Xbox Live. Here is what he had to say regarding the matter:

To be clear, Stadia Pro is not Netflix for Games like some people have mentioned, a closer comparison would be like Xbox Live Gold or Playstation Plus. The Pro subscribers get 4K/HDR streaming, 5.1 sound, exclusive discounts and access to some free games.

He mentioned that Google is trying to bring the service to as many devices as possible. Google Stadia Pro will come to Android and iOS in 2020. Doronichev talked about cross-play and mentioned that it is something that the company is working on but the support will depend on the developer as well.

He hinted that the next Stadia Connect show is around the corner. Google is coming to Gamescom 2019 so we might be able to learn more about the service next month. Google Stadia Pro is going to complete with the Xbox Scarlett and PS5. It might compete with the Nintendo Switch Pro, if it is released next year.

Let us know what you think about Google Stadia Pro and whether or not you are interested in checking out the service when it comes out later this year.
