Fans Are Unhappy About Borderlands 3 Coming Out on Epic Games Store

Fans Unhappy Borderlands 3

After the reveal of Borderlands 3 officially and the news that PC version is Epic Games Store exclusive, fans are unhappy and it is Metro Exodus all over again. Fans have started review bombing previous Borderlands titles which include Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2 on Steam. Borderlands was revealed back at PAX East 2019 and the official release date trailer was released just yesterday.

Just like all previous Borderlands titles in the franchise, Gearbox is bringing the newest entry in the franchise Borderlands 3 to PC but this time, things are not as smooth as we have hoped for. Epic has struck a deal with Gearbox and Borderlands 3 is coming out exclusively on Epic Games Store and will stay there for six months. After six months, the title will be released on other PC clients which include Steam.

Everything was going fine until fans heard about the title being an Epic Games Store exclusive and it was everything that the developers had not hoped for. Fans around the world are rallying up against both Epic Games Store and Gearbox and have started review bombing Borderlands 1 and 2 on Steam. Some fans are even starting boycott campaigns about not purchasing Borderlands 3 on Epic Games Store until the title is released on Steam after six months.

It makes sense because nearly all PC players have previous Borderlands titles in their Steam libraries and now to play the new game they have to switch to a brand new game store client which is not even half as good as Steam at this point. It lacks basic features and it means that players will have split libraries instead of a single library which was the case before Epic Games started nabbing exclusives.

There is a Reddit thread right now by Mattmo831 who is asking people to boycott both Epic Games Store and Borderlands 3 until the game comes to Steam. He states in his thread:

We can’t just let Epic Games keep buying out exclusives to their shitty launcher. This is very anti-consumer and it is literally epic paying millions to 2k just to fuck over us the buyers. I really suggest everyone on pc to boycott the game until it releases on steam so Epic does not get any of our money. I understand waiting 6 months may be hard… I am a huge Borderlands fan myself but with situations like this, we must vote with our wallet and let them know this isn’t ok.

This thread is full of people hating on both Epic Games Store and their exclusive policies and they think that this is going to divide the PC gaming community which has always stood as one. Earlier we saw many other video game developers going solo with their own clients such as EA has Origin, Blizzard has its own launcher even Bethesda started its own launcher but none of them have gathered so much hatred around themselves as Epic Games Store and it is all because of their exclusive title policies.

PC gamers have always made fun of console gamers by calling out to their exclusivity but it seems like now Epic Games Store is bringing exclusivity to PC gaming as well and fans are not happy about it as we have seen both in the cases of Metro Exodus and Borderlands 3. Both titles will eventually come out on Steam but hardcore fans of the franchises are very angry about the publisher exclusive deals because they do not want to wait for their favorite games after such a long time.

What do you think about the Epic Games Store nabbing away all the cool titles as timed exclusives? Are you going to purchase Borderlands 3 on Epic Games Store or will you wait until the title comes on Steam? Let us know in the comments section below.

  1. Xbox and Playstation have exclusive games…why dont we get bent out of shape about that?

I’ll answer my own question. You know from the get-go that those games are exclusives. Im an xbox owner, and I’d love to play MLB the Show…but thats the price I paid long ago…I knew what I was getting into.

Last minute exclusives because a company paid you extra cash to shaft your customer isnt cool.

  2. I’d rather shoot my d*ck off than buy the game on Epic. I will wait till it comes on steam. It will be the same for all these “Exclusives”. I expect this sort of behavior from Tim Sweeney and his bunch of pack rats at epic game store but I thought better of the publishers and developers behind Outerworlds, Metro and Borderlands.
