Everything Announced at Xbox & Bethesda Developer_Direct – January 2023

Xbox Bethesda Developer_Direct

Xbox & Bethesda held their very first Developer_Direct in which the studios showcased five games that are due to launch in 2023. The updates came directly from the developers’ studios inside their actual physical studios so it was a good change from the normal events. The five studios that took part showcased their titles such as Forza Motorsport, Redfall, The Elder Scrolls Online, Hi-Fi Rush, and Minecraft Legends. Let us dig deep into the new announcements now from today’s Xbox and Bethesda Developer_Direct.

Mahjong Studios – Minecraft Legends

The event started with Mahjong Studios showcasing their upcoming title Minecraft Legends. The main area of focus in today’s event was the PvP mode which will be included in Minecraft Legends. In Minecraft Legends’ PvP mode, two teams of four players will battle each other in order to destroy their enemy’s base. The mode will feature procedurally generated maps and the two teams will share resources with their teammates. All of the construction and upgrades will utilize the resources so each player will need to be mindful of their team as well.

Players will build their own bases and upgrade them as well with the classic Minecraft style and the enemies will try their best to destroy them. The upgrades are done using the Upgrade Tower which is the main structure in any team’s base and losing it will mean that players will not be able to further upgrade their base anymore. Since each time the map is procedurally generated, it means that each game will be unique as well. Minecraft Legends is releasing on April 18, 2023.

Turn10 Studios – Forza Motorsport

Next up, Turn10 Studios took to the stage and showcased some new mechanics and features of the upcoming title. As detailed by the studio, Forza Motorsport will feature over 500 cars at launch, and out of these, 100 cars have never been in a Forza game ever. You will be able to upgrade these vehicles with over 800 upgrade parts and each upgrade will have a proper effect on the car. For example, changing the exhaust and the engine will change the sound of the vehicle, and upgrading the suspension and tires will have a drastic change in how your vehicle handles in the game.

The new Forza Motorsport will also be the best sound Forza game ever. Turn10 details that Forza Motorsport will be the best-sounding Forza ever and it will feature the most realistically made tracks ever in a Forza game as well. The game will have 20 environments at launch which will feature a procedural cloud system, dynamic time, and weather system to ensure that each race in the game is as unique as possible. The game will be playable at 60 FPS in 4K with Ray Tracing on the Xbox Series X which is a huge achievement by the team and shows that the game is really well optimized. It is slated for launch in 2023 and a confirmed release date is not known at this point.

Tango Gameworks – Hi-Fi Rush

Developer Tango Gameworks made a surprise appearance at Developer_Direct and they not only revealed their brand-new game Hi-Fi Rush, but they also announced that the game is launching later today. Hi-Fi Rush is a rhythm-action game where you play as Chai. Chai is a defect in the game’s world and he is out for revenge against the company that develops robots. Hi-Fi rush is not your typical rhythm game because in here, the music revolves around you and every action you do in the game is auto-synced with the beat. As you land attacks, jump, or slide around, the actions are matched with proper sounds and beats. There is no loss on missing the beats however if you match them, there is a bonus to your gameplay.

The game has a bonus beat-matching move called Beat Kicks and if you match them, you will land powerful finishers to your enemies. There are also small music-matching mini-games that allow you to land powerful attacks on your enemies. There are boss battles in the game as well that feature chase sequences, music mini-games, and more. The boss battles also feature licensed music from rock bands like Nine Inch Nails, The Black Keys, The Prodigy, Wolfgang Gartner, and more.

ZeniMax Studios – The Elder Scrolls Online

This was followed by ZeniMax Studios announcing the next chapter for The Elder Scrolls Online called Necrom. It will bring a new class Arcanist to the game along with a new area. The new area is filled with new characters, quests, and more to find. You can check out the complete reveal below:

Arkane Austin – Redfall

The event ended with Arkane showcasing their upcoming vampire-hunting title Redfall. Redfall is a story-driven shooter where you will be able to choose a hero from many, each with its own unique skills and abilities. Your goal in the game is vampire hunting as the game offers you a complete city filled with missions where you will find and hunt vampires using your arsenal. This is the largest setting ever developed by Arkane. There will be plenty of safe zones in the game where you will be able to rest and take missions survivors as well which act as side missions in the game.

The more you kill vampires in the game, the more it angers the vampire gods however you can take the fight later to the vampire gods as well. Apart from main missions and side missions, you will encounter various random encounters throughout the city as well. Each mission in the game will offer you different approach paths and it will be up to you to take the one that suits you the best. For taking down vampires where they live, you can also head down to Vampire Nests. These are randomly generated and you will be required to kill all vampires down there, take out the nest’s heart and then escape before it comes crashing down on you. The game offers both solo and co-op gameplay. Redfall is slated for release on May 2, 2023.
