This Crimson Desert Iron Eagle Pet Guide shows how you can get Iron Eagle as a pet in the game. The Iron Eagle is a special bird pet you can unlock in Crimson Desert. Similar to the Phoenix pet, this one requires a few setup steps before you can tame it. You will need a special item called the Sotdae, some Mercury, and you also have to arrive at the correct location before sunrise.
Iron Eagle Pet Guide – Crimson Desert
The Iron Eagle can be found in Delesyia at the Hawkstone Ruins. The exact spot is near the large eagle statue located around the “A” area of Delesyia. The statue only becomes active around 5:00 a.m., so timing is very important for this challenge.
When you inspect the nearby stone message, it hints that you need to “step beyond the edge of darkness,” meaning just before sunrise, and offer “silver shards,” which refers to Mercury.
How to Get the Sotdae
Before taming any bird pet, you need the Sotdae tool item. When you first receive it, the game places it inside your Private Storage at either:
- Grey Main Camp
- Howling Hill
- Pailune Area
If you accidentally lose the item after placing it somewhere, you can recover it easily. Just go speak with Carl and open:
Manage Provisions -> Recover Items
You can buy back the Sotdae of Bond for 1 Silver.
How to Get Mercury
To tame the Iron Eagle, you need 20 Mercury. Mercury is found by freezing special liquid pools located in two different areas. According to the item description, Mercury can be collected near:
- Silver Wolf Mountain
- Hexe Sanctuary
You can also use a Platinum Bar instead, but Mercury is much easier to farm.
How to Freeze Mercury Pools
To collect Mercury, you need some kind of frost ability. The easiest method is using the Frost Imbue Element. Equip the Frost element, then use charged shots to freeze the Mercury pools.
On PC:
- Hold F3
- Select Frost
- Use a charged bow shot to freeze the liquid
After enough freezing attacks, the pool hardens and drops Mercury pieces you can collect. Another option is crafting the Kuku Frost Spitter from the Kilnden Workshop below Hernand. This tool freezes Mercury much faster if you already have it crafted.
Mercury Farm Location #1 – Silver Wolf Mountain
The first Mercury location is near Silver Wolf Mountain, specifically above the “W” in the word “Wolf” on the map. Here you will find a small liquid Mercury pool beside the mountainside.
Use Frost attacks repeatedly until the pool solidifies and breaks apart. Once shattered, Mercury pieces will drop on the ground. This location gives roughly 18 Mercury.
Mercury Farm Location #2 – Hexe Sanctuary
The second location is near Hexe Sanctuary above Demeniss, close to the Smoking Lands. This area contains a massive circular Mercury pool that is impossible to miss. Freeze the pool the same way as before, using Frost attacks. If your Frost energy runs out, enter Focus Mode to recharge it before continuing.
This second location gives around 12 Mercury. By farming both spots, you should easily end up with more than enough Mercury for the challenge.
Prepare Before 5:00 A.M.
The Iron Eagle event only works just before sunrise. Once you have enough Mercury:
- Return to camp
- Sleep in a bed
- Wake up close to 4:00 a.m.
- Travel back to Hawkstone Ruins before 5:00 a.m.
You need to be standing at the eagle statue as the sun begins rising.
Place the Sotdae
At Hawkstone Ruins:
- Open your inventory
- Go to the Tools section
- Select the Sotdae
- Place it near the eagle statue
After placing it down, interact with the feeder and place 20 Mercury. Nothing else will steal the Mercury, so you can safely leave it inside.
Activate the Statue
Stand near the statue and wait for the mechanism to align. As sunrise approaches, an interaction prompt finally appears on the statue just before 5:00 a.m. Interact with it to trigger a short cutscene.
Once the scene ends, the Iron Eagle flies directly to the Sotdae and starts eating the Mercury automatically.
How to Tame the Iron Eagle
After the Iron Eagle finishes eating, a new interaction appears, allowing you to take it in as your pet. Once tamed, standing still for a moment causes your character to hold out their arm while the Iron Eagle lands on it.
The pet can then be managed through: Inventory -> Pets. From there, you can:
- Summon the Iron Eagle
- Unsummon it
- Rename it
