Remedy Entertainment has shared a fresh look at Control Resonant during gamescom Latam, unveiling a new dev diary revealing early details about the sequel’s setting, gameplay direction, and narrative focus. Positioned as the follow-up to 2019’s Control, the upcoming title is currently slated for release in 2026 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac.
The latest dev diary introduces a major shift in the setting. While the original game was largely confined to the eerie, ever-shifting interiors of the Oldest House, Control Resonant expands outward into a distorted version of Manhattan. Remedy describes this new environment as a reality-warping playground, where paranatural forces twist familiar cityscapes. The result is a more open and varied world design that blends urban exploration with the studio’s signature surrealism.
Narratively, the sequel continues to explore the strange universe of the Federal Bureau of Control, this time focusing more heavily on Dylan Faden. Players will traverse both physical and metaphysical spaces shaped by his psyche, suggesting a deeper psychological layer compared to the original. Remedy has emphasized player choice and progression, with abilities evolving based on how players approach combat and exploration.
Gameplay builds on the foundation established in Control, combining telekinetic powers, environmental interaction, and weapon-based combat. In Control Resonant, players will wield a new shapeshifting melee weapon known as the Aberrant, alongside a range of elemental abilities. Encounters are designed to be dynamic, with shifting environments and unpredictable enemy behavior reinforcing the game’s central theme of instability.
The original Control was widely praised for its blend of action and storytelling, earning multiple Game of the Year awards and fortifying Remedy’s position in the narrative-heavy genre. Its mix of brutalist architecture, physics-based combat, and cryptic world-building helped it stand out in a crowded genre, and Control Resonant appears to be expanding on that formula in a more ambitious direction.
Remedy Entertainment is handling the publishing of the game, with Annapurna Pictures co-financing and co-producing as part of a broader partnership. Control Resonant is slated for release on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, along with PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
