Developer Acodeon has announced its brand-new vehicular combat game called Chaos on Wheels and it is slated for an early access release in fall 2023. The upcoming game will have players engaging in combat, destroying the environment, customizing vehicles, and upgrading equipment that takes this particularly niche segment. The developer has announced that the game will spend one year in its Early Access phase during which the game will be finalized with feedback collected by players. Accompanying the announcement is the official cinematic trailer for Chaos on Wheels that we have linked below for you so check it out before we jump into additional details:
In Chaos on Wheels, your ultimate goal is to rise to the top and become the King of Chaos. The game is set in the future where the evil AI Helios has begun an uprising against humanity and players must sit behind the wheel of weaponized cars and gain help from fellow members of the Chaos crew to defend humanity and regain control of society. You will begin your career as a rookie and demolish your way through dozens of levels and earn cash to upgrade your rides with powerful weapons and armor.
You will then use your upgraded machine to destroy Helios’s turrets and other hazards. Progression will reward you with new cars and destructive upgrades. The game is inspired by previous vehicular combat titles such as Twisted Metal. You will equip yourself with missiles, guns, and rockets and take them out for a spin in semi-destructible environments. The early access release will include a ten-chapter campaign along with a single-player Chaos Career and a custom battle selection with a split-screen for two players. The garage will allow players to manage 5 cars.
Key features of Chaos on Wheels include:
- Destroy: Enjoy fast-paced action with tons of bullets, rockets, and missiles that you can take onto semi-destructible environments. Destroy your friend and leave nothing behind but dust.
- Build: Manage your vehicles in your personal garage, where you can upgrade weapons, ammo, and armor. Equip new gadgets, add wraps, change your paint job, and more.
- Ride: Pick a driver and get ready to drive, drift, jump, and perform amazing stunts on dozens of maps.
- Eliminate: Take down turrets and other hazards that are determined to stop you. Destroy them to unlock new cars, weapons, armor, and gadgets, and leave the evil AI Helios in ashes.
The vehicular combat segment has been pretty much abandoned and left to die ever since titles like Vigilante, Twisted Metal, and Carmageddon left the scene. Twisted Metal tried to make combat back on PS3 however the franchise somehow failed to gain traction. There are some good combat racing games with wrecking in them like the recently released Wreckfest and you can also fit Gas Guzzlers Extreme in this category pretty well which is another good title however the genre has been sitting quite for quite a long time. It is nice to see developers digging back into this genre and we are looking forward to seeing Chaos on Wheels come out to see how it fairs in the genre.
Chaos on Wheels is slated for a fall 2023 release in early access on PC via Steam and if you are interested in trying it out, you can head over to Steam and add the game to your wishlist. If you want to try out the game right now, there is a free demo available on Steam as well which will give you a small taste of what you can expect from the full game when it launches later this year.
