Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts have just announced Apex Legends Preseason Invitational which is going to be a large scale esports tournament. This event is going to help in September and will feature some of the best players in a competitive setting.
The tournament is set to be held in the city of Krakow, Poland and will be hosted by the two companies on September 13 to 15. The event will feature a total of 80 teams from around the world, each with a trio of players competing for the prize money of $500,000.
All of the teams participating in the event will start in the double-elimination tournament in the winner’s bracket. Each round will decide if a team is worthy enough to continue in the winner’s bracket. While the losing teams will enter the losing bracket, having to fight other teams in the losers bracket as well. Teams having lost matches in the loser’s bracket will be eliminated, and the top 20 teams will be left competing for the title.
Todd Sitrin, who is the SVP and general manager of the EA Competitive Gaming Division had this to say in the announcement,
When we started the EA Competitive Gaming Division, we had a vision to Make Stars of All Our Players as we build an entertainment spectacle that captivates millions of players and spectators. Today we officially expand EA Competitive Gaming through the addition of Apex Legends, owner of one of the biggest game launches in history that continues to be powered today by a passionate global community. The Apex Legends Preseason Invitational is the key next step in our esports journey.
Design Director Chad Grenier of the game also had a say in the announcement,
Competition is in the DNA of Apex Legends and this competitive event will showcase the game at its highest-level. This Apex Legends Preseason Invitational advances our vision towards a robust competitive experience with the community at the center. We continue to explore all the entertaining ways both players and spectators can experience Apex Legends and look forward to bringing this event to life.
