Analgesic Productions has announced that their next title Anodyne 2: Return to Dust is launching across all PC platforms in May 2019. This is a follow up to their 2013 indie adventure RPG title Anodyne.
Anodyne 2: Return to Dust features an evocative, surreal, lo-fi 3D and 2D world in which players will jump in the shoes of Nova. Nova is a Nano Cleaner whose mission is to collect dangerous Nano Dust. Nano Dust is found all across the world of Anodyne 2 called New Theland.
After collection, Nova has to return back to the Center which is a mysterious entity and recycles Nano Dust. Players can either walk or ride across New Theland which is a fully 3D modeled world. Players will interact will different characters and places in the game.
Check out the teaser trailer below.
Earlier we mentioned that the game is both 3D and 2D. While exploring the normal world, the game will be in complete 3D however while exploring dungeons, the game will be in 2D which is a nod back to the original Anodyne released back in 2013.
To enter these 2D dungeons, players will shrink into bodies of people who are infected with Nano Dust and explore their bodies to collect Nano Dust. The bodies act like dungeons where players will need to solve different puzzles and defeat enemies.
Nova is equipped with a powerful Nano Vacuum which is used to collect Nano Dust or suck different objects from the world to use them as weapons. As players collect more Nano Dust, they will unlock access to further deep down the world of New Theland.
Since Anodyne 2 is a sequel to the first game, the developers state that first game is not directly connected to the story of the second game. Players can directly jump into the second game and explore its beautiful world. However, fans of the series will find different connections to both game here and there.
If you want to see how the game plays out in both 3D and 2D, you can check out the gameplay trailer below.
