Selecta Play and Aeternum Game Studios have announced the physical standard and Collector’s editions of Aeterna Noctis. Pre-orders for both the standard edition and the Collector’s Edition dubbed Caos Edition are now live across various retailers in the EU and you can reserve your copy right now. Pre-orders are currently live across France, Germany, Spain, and the UK with Italy and Greece to follow soon.
The Caos Edition is aimed at more hardcore fans of the game as it comes with the most goodies. It will include a Steelbook version of the game unique to each platform, a premium Collector’s Edition Artbook which contains over 224 pages, two stained glass window postcards, a three-disc original soundtrack, and a Collector’s CD cover that includes an exclusive download code The King of Darkness soundtrack together with all of the musical sheets of the game, encased in a beautiful Collector’s Edition box.
Aeterna Noctis is a 2D Metroidvania game that features never-before-seen evolved mechanics. In the ‘King of Darkness’ role, you must recover your power by exploring the vast lands of the world of Aeterna through 16 different and interconnected areas. The game features frame-to-frame, hand-drawn animations that give the game a unique personality to other similar titles in the genre.
Key features of Aeterna Noctis include:
- Level of Difficulty: Aeterna Noctis is a game of fair and intuitive difficulty from the first level, which increases progressively as the player gets more experienced with the controls and unlocks new skills. The gameplay is always keeping you alert but makes you feel proud after each challenge is completed.
- Fluid Gameplay Mechanics: The game has been designed and polished until achieving a system that responds to 100% of the actions regardless of the speed and conditions in which they are executed, giving the player a feeling of satisfaction and total control over the character in any situation.
- High Mobility: Level design is intuitive and allows to exploitation of the movement controls of the character, opening multiple ways to overcome each challenge and allowing skilled players to improve their zone completion times.
- Freedom of Decision: Aeterna Noctis has a non-linear map divided into 16 different and connected areas in the classic Metroidvania style. Although the main story has a defined path, developers want the players to set their own pace and be able to travel this huge world in multiple different ways.
- Traditional 2D Art: Aeternum Game Studios’ art team has designed Frame by Frame through traditional illustration, each and every one of the animations that you can enjoy in ‘Aeterna Noctis’, giving life to beautiful and fluid movements with absolute passion and dedication.
- Aeterna Noctis gameplay is built around an original, deep, and emotional story with epic moments and unexpected twists that will captivate the most experienced players.
A confirmed release date for Aeterna Noctis physical has not been revealed at this point however the physical Standard version and Caos Edition will be released during Fall 2022 on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. The digital version of the title was back in 2021 and it is currently available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, and PC. You can check out the Steam page for additional details.
