Metro 2039 Release Date Set for February 4, 2027

Developer and publisher 4A Games has officially announced the release date of Metro 2039. The next chapter in 4A Games’ horror shooter series arrives on PC and consoles on February 4, 2027. The announcement was made during PlayStation’s latest State of Play showcase, which also offered the first look at console gameplay.

The newly released footage was captured on a PlayStation 5 Pro in 4K at 60 FPS and showcased the game’s ray-traced visuals. According to 4A Games, a Performance Mode targeting 4K resolution and 60 FPS with ray tracing will also be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X at launch.

The gameplay trailer follows a character known as The Stranger as they explore a ruined apartment block in post-apocalyptic Moscow. The footage offers a closer look at the environmental detail, combat, and gameplay systems powering the next entry, while also highlighting the advances made to the 4A Engine since the release of Metro Exodus in 2019.

Metro 2039 recently received the Best Visuals award at gamescom and was also among the most nominated titles at the event. The new gameplay reveal gives players a better idea of what 4A Games is aiming to achieve technically as the series prepares to return.

The upcoming release will arrive years after Metro Exodus, which expanded the franchise beyond the familiar underground environments of previous games. The new entry appears to bring players back to post-apocalyptic Moscow, although 4A Games has yet to reveal the full scope of its setting and story.

Players looking to revisit the previous game before the launch of Metro 2039 can now access Metro Exodus through the PlayStation Plus Extra Game Catalog.

Metro 2039 wishlists are now available on PS5, PC via the Epic Games Store, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders will be available later this year, while additional details about the game’s technical specifications and graphical modes will be revealed in the coming months.
