This Gothic 1 Remake guide details how you can get the best Armor in the game: the Ancient Ore Armor, easily. The Ancient Ore Armor is widely considered the strongest armor set in Gothic 1, and most players only obtain it near the end of the game. However, with some preparation and a few difficult fights, it is possible to claim this armor during the very first chapter. Along the way, you can also collect several other high-end items, including powerful weapons, a valuable ring, master keys, and a useful amulet.
Ancient Ore Armor Guide – Gothic 1 Remake
Before attempting this method, you must first complete the required tasks in the Outer Ring of the Old Camp. Doing so grants access to the inner section of the camp, including the castle where Gomez resides.
The armor itself is hidden inside Gomez’s private room, located within the manor. Reaching it is not as simple as walking in and opening a chest. To gain access to the loot, you will first need to deal with Gomez and obtain the keys he carries.
Preparing the Area
A good first step is to clear out a guard positioned on the upper floor of the manor. Since he is not a named character, removing him causes no major issues and makes later fights much easier.
Once that is done, return to your bed and rest until midnight. During the late hours, many of the NPCs leave the throne room, creating opportunities to separate important targets from the crowd.
Taking Down Arto
With fewer people around, head back into the throne room and wait for the NPCs to gradually disperse. Your goal is to isolate either Arto or Scar so that you can fight them without attracting unwanted attention.
Sometimes both guards will begin leaving at the same time. If that happens, speaking to one of them can delay their movement long enough for the other to walk away. This makes it much easier to create a one-on-one situation.
Before starting the fight, save your game. The battle needs to end quickly before anyone else joins in. Once Arto is defeated, loot his equipment and take his one-handed sword. It is one of the valuable rewards available during this process.
Defeating Scar
After dealing with Arto, return to your bed and wait until midnight again. Repeat the same strategy to separate Scar from everyone else.
Scar is particularly worth fighting because he carries one of the strongest one-handed weapons in the game. Once he is isolated, defeat him and collect his sword. This weapon can remain useful for a very long portion of the game.
Facing Gomez
With both bodyguards out of the way, it is time to focus on Gomez himself. This fight requires slightly different timing. Instead of arriving at midnight, return to the throne room around 11:00 PM. Gomez typically leaves his throne around midnight, giving you a chance to catch him while he moves through the manor.
Ideally, you want him to head upstairs without anyone following. Since the upper-floor guard was removed earlier, the upstairs area should be much safer for a duel. Save frequently before attempting the fight. Once Gomez is alone, attack and defeat him. After the battle, search his inventory and collect everything he carries.
Among the rewards are the Ring of Invincibility, one of the best defensive accessories in the game, and the strongest two-handed sword available. More importantly, Gomez also carries two Master Keys, which are required for the next step.
Claiming the Ancient Ore Armor
After obtaining the keys, rest until daytime to make exploring the manor easier. During the day, there are fewer complications when moving through the upper floors.
Gomez’s room is located upstairs on the left side of the manor. Normally, the Master Key should open the door, although some players may encounter a bug that prevents this from working correctly. If that happens, lockpicking is an alternative option. Another method is to wait until around 9:00 AM and follow Velaya into the room when she enters.
Inside the chamber are two valuable chests. One of them contains the Ancient Ore Armor, allowing you to acquire the game’s strongest armor far earlier than intended. The room also contains a Fire Amulet.
Rewards
Completing this strategy during Chapter 1 can provide an impressive amount of top-tier gear. In a single visit, you can obtain the Ancient Ore Armor, the strongest two-handed sword, the best one-handed sword from Scar, the Ring of Invincibility, a Fire Amulet, and the Master Keys needed to access Gomez’s treasure room.
