Gothic 1 Remake Mercenary’s Blade Guide – How to Increase Maximum Damage

Gothic 1 Remake Mercenary's Blade Guide

This Gothic 1 Remake Mercenary’s Blade Guide details how you can find the most powerful Mercenary Blade in the game easily. If you are looking for a major weapon upgrade early in the game, the Old Mine is a great place to visit. Hidden inside are two strong swords that can significantly increase your damage output compared to the weapons most players are using at that stage. This area can be reached relatively early.

Starting from the Old Camp, leave through the North Gate and make your way northwest. Follow the path until you reach the entrance to the Old Mine. Once inside, head deeper into the mine toward the intermediate level, where you will find the enemies and loot needed for this strategy.

The Swords

The main rewards are two powerful weapons that are far stronger than many of the swords available during the early part of the game.

The Mercenary Blade requires 58 Strength and deals 73 damage, making it one of the strongest weapons you can acquire at this point. The Custodian Blade is only slightly weaker, requiring 56 Strength and dealing 71 damage.

Both weapons can also be sold for a large amount of ore, with each one being worth nearly 8,000 ore. Whether you plan to use them or sell them, they are extremely valuable finds.

Compared to common early-game weapons, the difference is huge. For example, a Morning Star only deals 23 damage. Upgrading to one of these swords can more than triple your damage output and make future battles much easier.

How to Get the Weapons

Obtaining the swords is surprisingly straightforward, even if your character is not yet strong enough to fight the mine’s toughest enemies directly.

While exploring the intermediate level of the Old Mine, continue until you reach an area where Templar and Gor Na Bar, two characters, can be found. Nearby, you will encounter several dangerous enemies that are usually far too powerful for an under-equipped character.

Instead of fighting them yourself, lure the enemies toward the nearby characters and creatures. By drawing the enemies into other ongoing fights, you can let them weaken or eliminate each other. This approach allows you to avoid a direct battle against opponents that would normally be extremely difficult to defeat.

As the fight unfolds, most of the hard work will be done for you. Once the enemies have taken enough damage, you only need to finish off any survivors that remain. Saving your game beforehand is recommended in case things do not go as planned.

Additional Loot

After the battle, you can collect more than just the swords. One of the enemies also drops the Sign of the Brotherhood amulet, giving you another useful piece of equipment to take with you.

The mine also contains another valuable item worth picking up: the Ring of Lesser Dexterity. This ring provides a bonus of five Dexterity, making it a useful upgrade for characters who rely on that attribute.
