CORSAIR has introduced ThermalProtect, a new PCIe 5.1 600W 12V-2×6 GPU power cable designed to help prevent overheating damage in high-power graphics cards. The new cable adds real-time temperature monitoring near the GPU connection point and is available now through Corsair’s webstore and retail partners.
The new ThermalProtect cable is built around an additional over-temperature protection system aimed at addressing concerns around modern high-wattage GPU connectors, particularly as newer graphics cards continue to push higher power demands through 12V-2×6 standards. A temperature sensor is housed inside a cable comb positioned 30mm from the connector, allowing it to monitor heat levels close to the point where overheating risks are most likely to occur.
If the system detects extreme temperatures, the protection system automatically triggers a GPU shutdown to help prevent damage to the graphics card and surrounding components. Corsair says the feature works automatically without requiring software setup or user configuration, making it a plug-and-play replacement for standard GPU power cables.
The first product using this system is the ThermalProtect PCIe 5.1 600W 12V-2×6 cable, compatible with power supplies that include a native 12V-2×6 connector. It uses a single-cable design rather than multi-cable adapters, which can help reduce cable clutter and improve airflow inside a PC case. The cable is 650mm long, available in black and white, and includes dual-tone connectors with grey tips to make it easier to confirm a secure connection. Corsair also lists a two-year warranty for the product. A standard 600W PCIe 5.1 12V-2×6 Type-4 cable is listed at $19.99 on CORSAIR’s store, though regional pricing for the ThermalProtect version may vary.
The launch comes as GPU power delivery and connector safety remain a major topic among PC builders, particularly around high-end cards using 12VHPWR and 12V-2×6 standards. Several manufacturers have recently focused on additional safety mechanisms for these connectors, with monitoring and shutdown protection becoming a growing area of interest for enthusiast systems.
The CORSAIR ThermalProtect 12V-2×6 cable is available now through authorized retailers and CORSAIR’s official store.
