Conan Exiles Enhanced Free Unreal Engine 5 Upgrade Launches May 5 on Steam

Conan Exiles Enhanced

Developer Funcom and Inflexion Games have announced Conan Exiles Enhanced, a free visual upgrade for Conan Exiles launching May 5 on Steam. The update moves the long-running survival game to Unreal Engine 5 and arrives just ahead of the game’s eighth anniversary on May 8.

The upgrade brings the full game and its eight years of post-launch content into a new technical foundation built around improved visuals, modern rendering systems, and broader performance optimizations. According to the studio, the update is designed to deliver smoother performance across a wide range of PC settings, targeting 60 FPS or higher on Low through Ultra presets, while also improving compatibility for Steam Deck players.

One of the most notable gameplay changes affects players who own the Isle of Siptah expansion. Previously, players had to choose between starting in the Exiled Lands or on the Isle of Siptah, but the new update removes that separation by allowing travel between both regions within a single continuous world. Multiplayer servers will also be able to support both maps at the same time, significantly expanding exploration and progression for players with access to the expansion.

The move to Unreal Engine 5 also includes updated materials, lighting, shaders, interface improvements, and a broader set of quality-of-life changes intended to modernize the overall experience. Rather than releasing the enhanced version as a separate paid edition, Funcom is positioning it as a free upgrade for existing Steam owners as part of the anniversary celebration for the game.

Originally released in 2018 and set in the world created by Robert E. Howard, Conan Exiles has reached more than 15 million players since launch, remaining one of Funcom’s largest long-term live service titles.
