GFA Games has released a new major content update for PIONER, its post-apocalyptic MMO shooter currently in Steam Early Access. Titled Depths of Tartarus, the update is now live and available for free to all PIONER players.
The update expands both PvE and PvP content, introducing a new multiplayer raid, an additional competitive map, fresh world events, and a range of quality-of-life improvements. The release follows PIONER’s Early Access launch last December and a New Year’s in-game event that helped establish its early player base.
Depths of Tartarus Brings a New Island, Enemies, and More to PIONER
The headline addition is Crab Island, a new multiplayer raid that pits players against disgraced pirates, mutant crabs, and several newly introduced bosses. On the competitive side, a new PvP map called Dawn has been added to the 6v6 Brawl mode, expanding the game’s structured PvP offering.
The update also introduces two world events. Power of Earth and the secret event, A Gift from Heaven, give players opportunities to earn high-tier rewards, including weapons such as the M60, M60 Hybrid, and P90. Additional changes include new trader recipes that allow players to downgrade resources, alongside a broad set of bug fixes and general gameplay improvements.
With Depths of Tartarus, GFA Games appears to be reinforcing PIONER’s long-term structure rather than chasing short-term spectacle. The focus on repeatable raid content, PvP expansion, and systemic improvements suggests an effort to stabilize progression and retention during Early Access.
GFA Games also shared early community statistics from the game’s first month. According to the studio, players have logged more than 2.3 million hours across 83,500 players, defeating 26.5 million enemies, completing nearly one million quests, and recording close to 100,000 PvP kills since launch. Additional stats are available in the infographic shared below.
To coincide with the update, PIONER is currently available at a 20% discount on Steam until February 16, lowering the barrier for new players to jump into Early Access. PIONER is available now in Steam Early Access.
