World War Z Adds The Walking Dead Crossover Campaign in New DLC

World War Z The Walking Dead

Saber Interactive has released a new crossover campaign for World War Z, bringing AMC’s The Walking Dead universe into the co-op zombie shooter. The World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC is available now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms, priced at $9.99.

The new downloadable content introduces a three-chapter story campaign set in iconic locations from The Walking Dead, including the Prison, the Alexandria Safe Zone, and Grady Memorial Hospital. Players can step into the roles of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, Michonne, and Negan, with Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus reprising their respective characters through new voice performances.

The Walking Dead Arrives in World War Z in Latest DLC

Unlike World War Z’s traditionally fast-moving zombie hordes, the crossover reimagines the game’s signature Zekes as Walkers inspired by The Walking Dead. While slower, these enemies are designed to remain dangerous through sheer numbers and new behaviour patterns, creating a different pacing for combat encounters.

The DLC also introduces new enemy variants, including Spiked Walkers, which feature reinforced defences and cannot be defeated with melee attacks until they are knocked to the ground. Once stunned, players have a brief window to finish them off before they recover, adding a tactical wrinkle to close-quarters combat.

Alongside the new campaign, the update includes two new melee weapons: Michonne’s katana and Negan’s bat, Lucille, as well as weapon skins inspired by Rick’s revolver and Daryl’s crossbow. These additions integrate familiar elements from The Walking Dead into World War Z’s existing progression systems.

The crossover represents a notable convergence of two distinct zombie interpretations. World War Z’s focus on overwhelming swarm mechanics contrasts sharply with The Walking Dead’s slower, more personal approach to the undead, and the DLC attempts to blend both philosophies within Saber Interactive’s Swarm Engine framework.

World War Z The Walking Dead

The World War Z x The Walking Dead DLC is playable solo with AI teammates or in up to four-player co-op, with full crossplay supported across PC and consoles. The base game and its expanding slate of crossover content continue to position World War Z as a platform for varied zombie experiences rather than a single, static campaign.
