Reggie Fils-Aimé might have left Nintendo behind but his days in the video game industry are not over yet. GamesIndustry.biz has reported that Reggie Fils-Aimé has been appointed as a board of director. Reggie Fils-Aimé joins the board of directors of GameStop right in time as three of the current board members are due to retire in the coming days.
The three board members retiring in June 2020 include Dan Dematteo, Szczepanski, Larry Zilavy and Steve Koonin. After they leave the board of directors, two more board members Jerome Davis and Tom Kelly are also retiring in 2021. After Dan Dematteo leaves, his place as board chair will be filled by Kathy Vrabeck who is also the lead independent director of GameStop. GameStop CEO George Sherman commented:
The Board refreshment and governance enhancements announced today represent an important milestone in GameStop’s transformation as we continue to evolve the Company’s business strategy for long-term success. We are pleased to welcome Reggie, Bill, and J.K. to the Board. They are each highly qualified and bring significant, relevant experience to our turnaround.
Reggie Fils-Aimé announced last year in February 2019 that he is retiring from Nintendo of America. He went away from Nintendo with a very heart-warming message and Doug Bowser took the reins of Nintendo of America from April 2019 after Reggie left the company. Reggie was known to his fans as the Regginator who loved him dearly and we saw him on every gaming convention representing Nintendo and interacting with the fans.
He joined Nintendo in 2003 and worked in the company for nearly 15 years and some of the most successful Nintendo consoles were released under him including the DS, Wii, 3DS and Nintendo Switch. Wii U was also released under Reggie however it failed to capture as much market share as other consoles released under him.
