The new PlayStation holiday theme is out and if you have checked it out then you might have noticed that the “S” has been replaced with a “5”. This could be a hint that the new PlayStation 5 will be revealed next year. If that is indeed true then it aligns well with the rest of the reports that we have been seeing.
The next-generation consoles are expected to release in 2020. If the PlayStation 5 is announced in 2019 then it could release in early 2020. Microsoft openly announced that it is working on the next-generation Xbox Scarlett console at E3 2018. Sony was not been so open about its console but one way or another we know that it is in development and it should arrive around the same time as the Xbox Scarlett.
If this information is indeed true then it falls in line with what AMD has been hinting all this time. We know that AMD powers the current generation of consoles including the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X. AMD CEO Lisa Su has also confirmed that AMD is going to power the upcoming next-generation console and that Microsoft and Sony have different “secret sauces”.
AMD CEO Lisa Su has already confirmed that she expects to see significant growth in the APU segment in 2020. This could be a hint at the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett consoles as the company is working on developing both. She also mentioned that AMD is very comfortable with its semiconductor customers. Which include both Microsoft and Sony.
It will be interesting to see what the PlayStation 5 will have to offer in terms of hardware and performance. While the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox One, the Xbox One X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro. It will be interesting to see which next-generation console will have an edge over the other. Will it be the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Scarlett. For now, all we can do is wait and see.
Let us know what you think about the PlayStation 5 and whether or not you think it will be revealed in 2019.
