Developer IO Interactive and Amazon MGM Studios have released a new “Rules of Spycraft” trailer for 007 First Light, outlining key gameplay systems ahead of its launch on May 27, 2026. The game is set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for summer 2026.
007 First Light presents an origin story for James Bond, focusing on his early days as an MI6 recruit before earning the 007 designation. Missions are built around player choice, allowing objectives to be approached through stealth, social manipulation, or direct combat. The game emphasizes reading environments and adapting to situations, with multiple paths and outcomes depending on how encounters are handled.
Core systems highlighted in the trailer include a range of spy tools and gadgets designed to support different playstyles. Players can use devices such as scanning tools to identify opportunities, distraction-based gadgets to bypass guards, and environmental interactions to create alternate routes. These mechanics are designed to encourage improvisation, with missions structured to support experimentation rather than fixed solutions.
Combat remains an option when stealth fails, with a focus on close-quarters engagements and situational awareness. Players can use the environment for takedowns, disarm opponents, and slow down moments for precision actions. Weapons and tools are treated flexibly, reinforcing the game’s broader emphasis on adaptability during missions.
The trailer also introduces a Tactical Simulation mode, which unlocks after initial progression and allows players to revisit mission scenarios in a controlled training environment. This mode includes score-based challenges, leaderboards, and progression systems tied to experience and unlockable items, encouraging replayability and skill improvement over time. The character of Dr. Selina Tan, portrayed by Gemma Chan, is featured as part of this training framework.
007 First Light launches May 27, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. It is also being developed for Nintendo Switch 2, which will arrive later in the summer of 2026.
