Zombie Army 4 is the brand new title in the Zombie Army franchise by Rebellion and it is also so far the best one in the series. Playing the game if you are new to the franchise could be a little overwhelming at the start however with the help of this beginner’s guide, you will be able to begin your zombie slaughtering adventure in no time.
Beginner’s Guide – Zombie Army 4: Dead War
Our Zombie Army 4: Dead War Beginner’s Guide details everything that you need to know about playing Zombie Army 4: Dead War for the first time.
Always Keep an Eye on Your Health and Stamina
The blue bar at the bottom right side of the screen is your Stamina while the red bar right below it is your Health. You must always be aware of your stamina and health. Health ensures that you are alive and you refill it with Medkits. Taking damage will reduce your health. Stamina, on the other hand, is used by multiple actions such as sprinting, Empty Lung, melee attacks and Weapon Assists. It refills over time however you must have enough to perform the required actions otherwise you will not be able to perform them.
Upgrade Kits Will Save Your Life
Although you can try and find all of the collectibles in the game, the most important collectible in the game is the Upgrade Kits. These are scattered around each chapter in the game and they allow you to upgrade your weapons. Without these weapon upgrades, your life will become hell in Zombie Army 4. Each chapter hides plenty of Upgrades Kits for you to find in the game. Keep collecting these Upgrade Kits and when you get access to a Workbench, always update your weapons.
Incendiary or Electrical Upgrades Should be a Priority
All of the weapons in the game can be upgraded so you should always update them whenever you find a workbench and some Upgrade Kits. The best upgrades are however the ones that allow your weapons to deal with Elementary damage which is Incendiary, Electrical or Divine. They add a more punch to your weapons and the best thing about these elementary damage effects is that they spread to more than one enemies making taking down hordes extremely easily. Pile up some zombies and set them on fire or shock them with your elemental upgrades. You must get these upgrades right at the start of the game.
Always Have Second Chance Perk Equipped
Who does not like a second chance at redemption? The Second Chance Perk will allow you just that. With this handy perk equipped, if your health reaches zero and you are downed, you can shoot and kill a zombie with your pistol to return back to the game with a little bit of your health and try another time to complete the level which you failed earlier without the need of starting again from a previous checkpoint. This perk is unlocked right from the start and you must have it equipped as you continue to unlock more Perk slots as you level up as well because it is very handy in tricky situations. It will replenish after you visit a safehouse or a checkpoint.
Rifle Empty Lung is Useless When Horde is After You
During the rise of a horde, you will have a lot of zombies around you. During this, you must avoid using the Rifle Empty Lung feature because it is not worth to take 10 seconds just to kill one zombie. During such events, you must switch to secondary weapons if the horde is right on your head or stick to normal shooting with your rifles without emptying your lungs. However, with some practice, you can use the Rifle Empty Lung feature to land some quick shots on bosses or miniboss’ weak spots.
Complete Heroic Events
As you explore the chapters of Zombie Army 4, you will often find survivors who are in the need of assistance. Always try your best to save these survivors because you will end up getting some bonus rewards that are not unlocked in any other way. If you are not careful or fail to protect these survivors, they will die and you will not be able to get the reward at least in that playthrough of the chapter. Always lookout for these bonus opportunities for cool rewards and some extra XP.
Save Your Medkits for the Last
Even if you have 1 health out of 100, your medkits will completely heal you. You can only carry a very limited amount of medkits in the and they are not really easy to find outside Safehouses or checkpoints as well. You should keep them on the reserve and use them only when you extremely have to. If you take a hit or two, do not heal yourself. Continue taking damage without healing until you are a single or two hits away from death. Only then, should you use medkits to heal yourself.
Explore Complete Maps Unless the Horde is After You
Sometimes you will find some great things hiding in secret rooms or paths that lead away from the main path. In certain locations, an endless zombie horde will continue to spawn unless you escape from that area but in certain areas, after you have cleared the zombies, you will be free to roam the area without any trouble. In such areas, you should always look around completely before leaving the map as you never know what you might find.
Complete Chapter Challenges
Apart from the main campaign mission, you will also have an extra challenge in each mission which could range from killing a certain number of zombies with melee or getting certain kills by fire. These chapter challenges will grant XP and will help you level up quickly so you should always try to complete the chapter challenges as well. They are not too difficult and are tailored mostly according to the level you have selected so they are pretty easy to complete in certain cases.
Be A Team Player
Zombie Army 4: Dead Army can be completed entirely in solo and it is quite fun in solo as well however at its core, a co-op title. We all know that co-op titles are only fun if players actually play as a team. The supplies such as grenades and special crates are limited while ammo resupply is unlimited. If you already have some good weapon attachments on your weapon, let your co-op players have some too or if you already have a grenade with you, it is better to have your friend one too instead of stockpiling all of them in your own inventory.
Apart from this, from time to time, one of your co-op players will also go down if they are relatively new to the game and do not have access to upgraded weapons yet. You must try to help them out as much as possible and if they are downed, quickly revive them and bring them back in the fight because no matter how good you are, you will need help from your co-op players at some time so always look out for them.
Melee is Important to Survive
Apart from your main weapon, Melee also plays an important role in ensuring that you survive as long as possible in the game. This can be judged by the fact that Zombie Army 4: Dead Army comes with multiple melee attacks to simply annihilate the undead horde however most melee attacks take time to charge. You can land a normal melee hit by pressing R3 and press R3 while sprinting to land a Barge.
Crouch, press R3 and you will land a powerful uppercut to the zombies. Apart from this, you can also press L1 to melee stomp zombies which will crush zombies who fall down on the ground. Special Melee Attacks take time to charge but once fully charged, you can press R3 to instantly land a powerful melee swing at your enemies.
Melee Takedowns are the most powerful melee attacks however they must be charged with 10 combo kills before you can land them. These powerful Melee Takedowns will give you health and ammo as well as kill the enemy unfortunate enough to be in your way. If you have full health already, you are awarded some extra health for some time.
