Where to Fish in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Despite having numerous water bodies on the entire map, you can only fish at a certain spot in the game and it is the pond in Mabe Village. You will find the pond in the northern part of the village where a small shack is located and you will find a man already fishing there. He is the fisherman and he will give you a brief tutorial on how you can fish in the game.
How to Fish in The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Once you have arrived at the pond, interact with the fisherman who will explain everything to you. If you skipped the initial tutorial then you should know that once you are at the fishing spot, press and hold A to throw the line. Holding will determine how far the line goes. The more you press A while throwing the line, the farther it will go so you can adjust your distance according to the fish in the pond.
Once the lure is in the water, you will need to wait until a fish comes near and bites on it. You can also use the left joystick to move it a little bit to gain the attention of the nearby fish. If nothing is working, try reeling the lure in slowly and stop when fish are near it and try wiggling it again. Once the fish has noted the lure, it will approach the lure and bite on it.
Now at this point, you must notice the amount of vibration. Sometimes the bite is just a fake nudge and you might spook the fish. The vibration is pretty strong when the bite is real and the fish is ready to be reeled in. To reel in the fish, use the left joystick and if you want to speed up the process, you can press A as well to reel it in even quicker. Make sure that you don’t push too hard or the fish will break the line and escape.
Rewards for Catching Fish
The first time you catch your fish, you will be rewarded with a heart piece. Once you have caught a smaller fish, your next target should be a bigger fish because a bigger fish will net you another heart piece. The bigger fish will also reward you with a middleweight lure which sinks down and will help you catch the fish which are roaming near the bed of the pond. It will also help you catch the Fairy Bottle hiding at the bottom of the pond in some seaweed at the bottom-left side.
Tips and Tricks
- While reeling in the fish, you must ensure that you are never tugging when the fish is trying to move the opposite way. This will cause the line to break. Always reel in when the fish is moving towards you or at least facing your side and not the opposite side.
- Try to throw the lure as far as possible because in this way, you will be able to cover more ground and even if some fish at the far side are not interested, you can try with the fish which are nearer to you.
- Do not fast reel always. Always tap A when you are sure that the reel will not break. Fishing is the other name of patience so you have to be patient while catching fish specially the big one.
- Do not move the lure too much or you will scare away the fish. Your goal is to gain their attention, not scare them away.
- You can fish as much as you like. There is no restriction on how much fish you can catch in the game.
