Below we have detailed how to grapple or defend against it and how Grapple Assist works.

Grapple Assist

As you may have noticed, the Grapple HUD in the game has been changed from the last game in the series. You will notice three moves that you can perform when grappling an opponent, which are to Submit, Get Up, or Ground and Pound.

This new way of grappling makes it easier for new players by simplifying the move. However, if you don’t want the Grapple Assist, you can disable it by choosing the Hybrid option.

How to Grapple

When you want to grapple an opponent, you can either go for the clinch or take them to the mat by pinning them from above. This move can be done by pressing the L2 and Square on the PS4 controller.

On the other hand, if you want to go for the clinch, you will need to press R1 and Square or R1 and Triangle. Grappling advantage can be obtained when you are on top of your opponent and land small hits and denying them the transitioning. On the other hand, when you have the grappling advantage, it will make your player transition more quickly while the opponent will have a difficult time defending the transition.

Keep Stamina in Check

Stamina is a very important part of grappling when you are on top of the opponent. If your stamina falls too low, this can allow the opponent to transition and submit you in return, turning the tables around.

Maintaining good or high stamina will allow you to react more quickly and transition as quickly as possible provided your grapple advantage is high as well

How to Defend Grappling

When you find yourself on the receiving end, which is highly likely when the players grapple you in the fight, you have to focus on defending by first keeping your posture up and avoiding any submission to the opponent.

The best way to defend against the grapple is to keep your head moving and focusing on getting up. The right analog stick will allow you to move your head, while the left will help you get up.
