SNK has announced that their iconic fighting game THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’98 ULTIMATE MATCH FINAL EDITION is getting a major Steam update this winter that will add new features to the title. These new features include the major online features as well that fans have been waiting to see for a long time. A community beta test is scheduled from Nov 30 to Dec 4, that will allow interested players to try out these new features ahead of the full release.

SNK details in the official press release that one of the most important features of online matches in modern fighting games is rollback netcode that makes online matches more precise and circumvent delays caused by latency. THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’98 ULTIMATE MATCH FINAL EDITION’s original delay-based netcode will be swapped with the fan-acclaimed, state-of-the-art rollback netcode by Code Mystics which will bring the game in accordance with modern times.
The title will also receive online lobbies which will offer more than just 1v1 matches. Players will be able to host or join large rooms with multiple players for online battles. Apart from fighting, players who just want to observe and learn or even cheer on their friends will be able to join these rooms and enjoy their time in the lobby via spectator mode.
The upgrade will go live later this winter which will allow everyone to enjoy the new online modes however SNK is arranging a Community Beta for the game which will allow them to collect player feedback. The beta will run from Nov 29, 5 PM PST to Dec 3, 5 PM PST, and during this beta, interested players will be able to check out the online lobbies, play matches, and use the spectator features of the game.
