Collecting resources is a big part of progressing in Solarpunk, and the small rocks around your base won’t last forever. Luckily, the world contains permanent mining deposits that never run out. Once you discover these locations, you can build automated mining outposts and keep a steady supply of materials.
Resource Mine Locations Guide – Solarpunk
The following are the resources from which you can get the permanent mines in the game.
Iron
Iron is the easiest permanent resource to reach because it is located on your starting island. You can begin gathering it immediately without unlocking any upgrades.
Although you can mine the deposit with a Pickaxe, it quickly wears down your tools. Because of this, it is much more efficient to place an Electric Drill on the deposit as early as possible. The mined Iron Ore can then be smelted in a Furnace to produce Iron Bars for crafting.
Copper
After obtaining the Airship, travel to the small island northwest of your starting island to find the permanent Copper deposit.
Copper becomes an important crafting material. Once refined, it is used in several electrical recipes, including Electric Drills, Cables, and Solar Panels.
Quartz
Quartz can be found on a group of islands northwest of your home island. If you are already at Copper Island, simply continue west to reach it. You will need Airship Upgrade 1 before you can access this area.
After mining and processing Quartz, it becomes Silicon, which is required for more advanced equipment and power systems such as Wind Turbines.
Sand
The permanent Sand deposit is located on the large island northeast of your starting point. Another way to reach it is by heading directly east from Copper Island. This location also requires Airship Upgrade 1.
Sand can be refined into Glass, an important material used for building windows, constructing greenhouses, and crafting Solar Panels.
Cobalt and Stone
Both of these permanent deposits are found on the same island south of your starting location, making it possible to collect two different materials from a single mining base. You must unlock Airship Upgrade 2 before visiting this area.
The Cobalt deposit sits on the northern cliffs, while the Stone deposit is tucked between the cliffs in the southeastern section of the island.
Refined Cobalt is mainly used alongside Silicon when producing advanced electronic equipment. Stone, meanwhile, is a basic but heavily used resource for recipes such as Furnaces and Brick buildings.
Clay
The permanent Clay deposit is located on a large island to the west-northwest of your starting area.
Reaching it requires Airship Upgrade 3, so during the early game, you will mostly gather Clay by breaking ordinary rocks scattered across different islands. Clay can be processed into Bricks, which are required for unlocking several crafting recipes and constructing brick buildings.
Diamond
Diamonds are one of the hardest resources to obtain, but there is a permanent deposit hidden on the frozen island southwest of your starting location. You will need Airship Upgrade 4 before you can travel there.
Build Automated Mining Bases
After discovering each permanent deposit, consider turning every location into a small mining outpost. Installing Electric Drills powered by Solar Panels or Wind Turbines allows the resources to be collected automatically. Adding a Transport Drone can also move the mined materials back to your main base without requiring you to make repeated trips.
