This Solarpunk Beginner’s Guide details some helpful tips and tricks to help new players start their journey in the game optimally. Starting in Solarpunk means balancing survival with building your home in the sky. You will spend a lot of time gathering resources, planting, and expanding while making sure you always have enough food and water. Progress can slow down if you run out of important materials.
Beginner’s Guide – Solarpunk
The following guide has all the tips detailed below.
Replant Resources as Soon as Possible
Since your island only has a limited amount of resources available at one time, you will often have to wait for plants and trees to grow back. Because of that, it is a good idea to plant new seeds immediately whenever you get them instead of keeping them in storage.
Planting trees close to your base also saves time, since you won’t have to travel far every time you need wood. As you expand your airship and gain access to new islands, spend some time exploring them.
Wheat is especially important for progression, so after unlocking and upgrading your airship once, make finding wheat a priority. Eventually, you will unlock the greenhouse, which allows crops to grow with very little effort.
Always Keep Extra Water Available
Raspberries can help with thirst early on. Later, you will be able to build a raincatcher to collect water from rainfall. Although you can drink directly from it, relying on only one raincatcher can become a problem if rain doesn’t arrive for several days.
Building two raincatchers gives you a much safer supply. Crafting a carafe is also worthwhile because it lets you store additional water while it is raining. Once you have had enough to drink, you can fill the carafe and save the extra for later.
The carafe has another useful purpose. You can take dirty water from a well or a lake and then place it in the furnace to purify it before drinking.
Make Airship Landings Easier
Landing without a dock can be tricky, but there is a simple way. Hover above the island and slowly descend by pressing Shift. Once you are close enough to the ground, press E to dock automatically. Doing this helps prevent unnecessary damage to your airship and makes landing much smoother.
Avoid Wasting Fuel in the Generator
The generator has a limit on how much power it can store. It can only hold up to twelve minutes of energy. Adding extra fuel beyond that limit doesn’t increase the amount of stored energy, even though the fuel itself will still be consumed. Sixteen pieces of wood are enough to reach its maximum capacity, so adding more only results in wasted resources.
Save Your Pickaxe by Using Drills
Permanent ore deposits can wear out a normal pickaxe very quickly. Once drills become available through the trader robot and the energy bench, they are a much better option for mining these deposits.
Each drill requires 120 Energy to operate. This means one Energy Generator can support a drill, while two Solar Panels can also provide enough power during good weather. Since solar panels stop working at night and during rain, combining drills with reliable energy sources can help you create an efficient and mostly automated mining setup.
Set Your Respawn Location Properly
Crafting a bed gives you a place to return, but simply sleeping in it isn’t enough. You need to interact with the pillow to actually assign it as your spawn point.
Useful Things to Remember
- Placing chests on shelves is a simple way to keep everything organized, though you will need to unlock shelves through the research bench first.
- If your character gets trapped somewhere, open the pause menu and use the “Unstuck Me” option to free yourself.
- When building foundations, you can hold T and drag with the left mouse button to raise them.
- Community discussions also suggest that airships belong to individual players, meaning they cannot be shared when playing in co-op.
