Developer and publisher Sour Lemon Studios is gearing up to release its latest game Tower of Dreams on PC via Steam. Tower of Dreams will be available on PC via Steam starting October 8th. This retro-inspired platformer roguelike offers a nostalgic experience combined with modern mechanics, and fans of the genre can also look forward to an upcoming Nintendo Switch version in the near future.
In Tower of Dreams, you take on the role of the Dream Knight, a hero tasked with ascending a mystical tower filled with enemies and challenges. Armed with a sword and equipped with simple controls, you will need to time their jumps, wall bounces, and attacks to progress through a series of randomly generated stages. Each ascent is unique, as no two runs will be identical, thanks to the tower’s dynamic selection of hand-crafted stages and mini-challenges. Along the way, you will discover 36 unique items, permanent upgrades, and cosmetic options that keep gameplay fresh and engaging.

The game’s aesthetic is a major highlight, with its retro pixel art inspired by the Game Boy Color. The limited 13-color pastel palette creates a whimsical, dreamlike atmosphere that is both charming and nostalgic. The tower itself is divided into three distinct floors, each with its own visual style and set of challenges. Whether navigating through fantasy landscapes, factory-themed levels, or a serene sky garden, you must adapt their strategies to conquer the tower’s ever-changing obstacles.
Progress in Tower of Dreams is designed to be both challenging and rewarding. You will find special items and upgrades as they explore, adding layers of strategy to each run. Completing a stage earns you a performance grade, which serves as a reminder to improve your skills when you face the same stage again. Death is not the end, as you leave behind a small grave containing an item from their previous run, encouraging them to return and try again.
The game offers additional features such as Nightmare Mode, where you take on tougher enemies and higher stakes. For those focused on platforming, checkpoints allow them to skip ahead to previously completed floors, giving them the chance to refine their skills. The soundtrack, inspired by classic games like Kirby’s Adventure and Sonic CD, adds an energetic and nostalgic touch to the overall experience.
Tower of Dreams is set for its release on PC via Steam on October 8, 2024, and you can head over to its Steam page to add it to your wishlist. After its PC release, it will also be released on Nintendo Switch sometime later. Additional details will be announced at a later stage.
