Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege Crosses 55 Million Players

Rainbow Six Siege 55 Million

Rainbow Six Siege has just crossed over 55 million registered players and is continuing to become one of the top games by Ubisoft in the current generation. The game is still quite popular thanks to its regular additions of new Operators, Maps and loads of other content.

This number of players was mentioned in the third-quarter earnings report of 2019-2020 shared by Ubisoft. Last year, the game saw a 10% growth in players over the past five months, thanks to the release of its Operation Ember Rise update.

The game was launched back in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Though it was a shaky start, the regular updates added in by Ubisoft continue to bring in more fans over the years. Siege is set to start its 5th year, which will be yet another year full of new maps, 8 new Operators and a new yearly pass. More details will be shared by Ubisoft at this month’s Six Invitational event.

In the same report, Ubisoft has also stated that the current fiscal year was well below their initial expectations, even though some titles including Siege performed really well. One of the main reasons was the underwhelming reception of their recent release of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The CEO of Ubisoft Yves Guillemot went on to admit that it was “very disappointing.”

Although the current fiscal year is well below our initial expectations, the third fiscal quarter saw excellent performances from several titles in our back catalog — particularly Rainbow Six Siege, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, The Crew 2 and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle — and from the release of Just Dance 2020 (in November), which is back on the growth track. The fact that our number of active players, MAUs and PRI on consoles and PC have remained stable year on year at high levels clearly demonstrates the depth of our game’s portfolio and the firmer resilience of our business model.

Ubisoft is now working on another Rainbow Six title called Rainbow Six: Quarantine. The game will be focused on a cooperative play where you have to fight infected enemies. The game was supposed to launch in Q1 of 2020, but that was delayed indefinitely for more development and polishing.

Have you played Rainbow Six: Siege? What is it about the game in your opinion that still keeps in relevant? Post your comments below.
