NVIDIA has released new MX series dedicated graphic cards for laptops and these cards will support PCIe 4.0 and will have GDDR6 memory. NVIDIA has introduced its new MX graphics quietly, without any press briefings or press releases whatsoever. The Nvidia MX450 dedicated graphics was first spotted on NVIDIA’s own website on the product’s official page.

The MX450 is the first NVIDIA GeForce card to support PCIe 4.0. The GeForce MX is a mobile series, a truly entry-level performance for multimedia and very light gaming. These GPUs usually have a power draw of 15W to 25W.

So far, NVIDIA has not stated how much higher performance these cards will have as compared to the MX300 series. They also haven’t provided any technical specifications about the MX400 series cards.

NVIDIA listed different technologies on their website that the card will support. They include NVIDIA Optimus technology, NVIDIA GPU Boost, NVIDIA Game Ready Drivers, NVIDIA CUDA technology and PCI Express 4.0. The card will also support Microsoft DirectX 12, Vulkan 1.2, OpenGL 4.6, and OpenCL 1.2.

The only specification confirmed so far is that some of the higher-end MX cards will feature GDDR6 memory. It is speculated that NVIDIA will pair these cards with the upcoming Tiger Lake laptops, as it is the only mobile platform to support PCIe 4.0 so far.

Laptop manufacturers love pairing Intel processors with Nvidia’s GeForce MX-series graphics cards. Both combine their lower-end chips to have good budget laptop options. It is likely that you will find the GeForce MX450 alongside some Tiger Lake processor in the foreseeable future.

Perhaps, Nvidia intended to say that the GeForce MX450 works fine with processors that support PCIe 4.0 rather than stating that the graphics card actually takes advantage of the speedy interface. The MX300 series cards were based on Pascal architecture and it is very likely that the MX400 series cards will be based on the Turing architecture rather than the newest Ampere one.

It is currently unknown if the MX400 series cards will benefit from the PCIe 4.0. But either way, NVIDIA has got a solid point to show off their latest offering.
